The stupidest bike lane in Los Angeles
The good people at
Slate created a video challenge not too long ago that was aimed at finding the stupidest bike lanes they could. The editor made a video that gave the best example he could find, and surprise, it was in Los Angeles. That being said, it's actually a bike lane I used for several years. Dumb bike lanes are not only funny, but they're actually somewhat sad. Cyclists should never assume that some paint on the floor will keep them safe, but at least they inspire some sense of confidence.
At least some people are doing something about it. The
LA bicycle plan is a site that aims to propose new bike lanes and also allow people to submit their own ideas.
Burbank Bike is also a seperate attempt at allowing citizens to get invovled in dictating where the lanes go. The video says it all and even though it seems trivial, it's dangerous to think that a line next to parked cars will do much (car doors hurt, trust me).
