Ryan Hall to run the Boston Marathon in 2009

November 21, 7:06 AM
by Jennifer Gill, D.C. Running Examiner

The Boston Marathon event sponsor, John Hancock Financial, announced yesterday that Ryan Hall will be running the Boston Marathon in 2009.

Ryan Hall is the American record holder in the half marathon, and placed 10th in the Beijing Olympic Marathon this past August. Over the past two years, Hall has become the fastest American marathon runner. Should he win, he will become the first American winner of Boston since Greg Meyer in 1983.

Hall made his marathon debut in London 2007. He had the fastest debut by an American, finishing seventh in 2:08:24.  A few months later at the U.S. Olympic Trials in New York City, he set a course record as he won by nearly two minutes over the rest of the field.

In April 2008, Hall returned to London. He finished fifth in 2:06:17, making him the second fastest American of all time. A few months later, he finished 10th in the Olympic Marathon in Beijing.

The Boston Marathon is always an exciting event. But next year, the race is sure to be the most talked about running event of the year.

Happy running!
