Lately I have been very interested in newer acts when it comes to blues music, although I often find musicians that have been around for a while that still give phenomenal performances. Sonny Landreth is an electric slide guitarist from the heart of Louisiana, and although he has been able to produce over nine great albums that impress our ears, many people have not heard much of him.

Having collaborated with such outstanding guitarists and blues musicians as Eric Clapton, Robben Ford and Eric Johnson, Landreth’s music has limbed into the hearts of hardcore blues fans. With his 2008 album From the Reach, Landreth brought in these compilations and others while giving purely melodic sounds to his followers. Even Jimmy Buffett and New Orleans pianist Dr. John have played along side Landreth for some incredible performances.

One of my favorite songs from the album From the Reach, is Blue Angel, a beautiful electric song with the assistance of Vince Gill and Robben Ford about the guiding love from above that helps us to believe in something greater than all else. With the smooth voice of Gill and the slightly smoky, yet soft voice of Landreth, this song, as well as many others, stays within you and keeps your feet tapping for more.

I certainly cannot resist the sound of a soft voiced musician, especially if that musician plays the guitar. With the many songs the Landreth has put out into the mainstream world of music, it is no wonder that his fans can’t wait for more. I too, am looking forward to hearing more of Landreth’s soul soothing music in the near future, and I certainly would not pass on the chance to see him live. If you ever get the chance, you must go. I assure you the evening will be one to remember.
