Good day fight fans! I was fortunate enough to get a hold of former unified lightweight champion Nate "The Galaxxy Warrior" Campbell. Nate will be joining the talented crop of boxers at the 140 pound division as he will be facing WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in Bradley's backyard at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage over at the Palm Springs area in Southern California.
The event will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions in association with Don King Productions and Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa. Tickets go on sale July 3, at 10 a.m. (PT) and will be available for purchase online at www.HotWaterCasino.com/TheShow or by calling (800) 585-3737.
Bradley is undefeated and Campbell will definitely have his hands full against the Palm Springs native. He holds victories over top fighters in the 140 division such as Edner Cherry, Junior Witter and Kendall Holt. This will also be Campbell's first venture up at 140 after struggling making 135 and actually losing his belts on the scales in his last fight against Ali Funeka. Campbell looked sluggish in that fight and barely won a majority decision.
In part one of the interview I posted below, Nate talked about his upcoming fight against Timothy Bradley and how he feels that he is the best fighter in the 140 pound division. Nate also shared his thoughts and admiration for one of the greatest who ever fought at 140, the late, great Alexis Arguello who passed away this week at age 57. Nate voiced out his sadness over boxing's loss and decribed Arguello as an absolute gentleman.
In part 2 which I will be posting tomorrow, I also asked Nate for his thoughts about a comment his trainer John David Jackson had made in the past, as reported by our San Francisco Boxing Examiner Colin Seymour, that the current consensus Pound-4-Pound best fighter in the world Manny Pacquiao has avoided African-American boxers. Watch out for that one as it will surely cause a stir amongst you fight fans.
Here's the transcript of part 1 of my interview with one of the best fighters in the game today, Nate Campbell.

D Source - Good day fight fans! D Source for The Examiner is here with "The Galaxxy Warrior" Nate Campbell. Nate is going to fight Timothy Bradley on August 1 in Bradley's backyard at the Agual Caliente Casino in Palm Springs for the WBO junior welterweight belt. Nate, thanks for taking time out to do this interview.
Nate Campbell - Thank you for having me man. Thanks for calling me up man.
D Source - Right on, tell us... how are you doing Nate?
Nate Campbell - I can't complain man. Everything is good on my end. I'm just ready to fight.
D Source - How is training camp going, and is there anything different that you are doing for Bradley to ensure that you bring the first loss to his record?
Nate Campbell - I am fighting my fight you know.. I going to go out and do what I do. Bradley's gonna do what Bradley does and I'm going to do what Nate Campbell does. In my opinion, what I do is so much more than what he does. He does everything that he can. I'm a seasoned veteran. There's nothing he can show me that I haven't already seen.
D Source - What are you expecting for Bradley to do coming in to the fight?
Nate Campbell - I expect him to come out... I expect Bradley's gonna box. If you ask me, I think he's gonna box.
D Source - You were the unified champion at 135 and now you are moving up to 140. Tell us why you made that jump. Did that last fight against Funeka have anything to do with it?
Nate Campbell - Oh yeah, I couldn't make the weight. My body would physically not go there anymore. I made 40 easy. My body wouldn't physically go down again.
D Source - So you feel so much stronger in 140 right now?
Nate Campbell - Yeah. Oh yeah! I'm physically a beast right now. I'm an animal!
D Source - Now that you're in the 140 division, one of the greatest at 140 in Alexis Arguello recently passed away. Can you share us your thoughts on Mr. Arguello?
Nate Campbell - Yeah. I was very saddened by it. I was actually able to meet Arguello last year at the Hall of Fame. I am more of a fan of Alexis Arguello because I was a fan of Aaron Pryor, but I was also a big fan of Alexis Arguello. I mean, I'm saddened by his loss. To lose a fighter as great as Alexis Arguello, he's a great, great, great... you know... it's hard for our community, because the boxing community is very small. And the world champions is very small. I'm honored I was able to meet him last year.
D Source - What do you think made Arguello so special?
Nate Campbell - I thought that he was such a gentleman inside and outside the ring. He was a monster in the ring. He was so gracious and I'm honored to have met him. I asked him when I met him, whay are you so gracious? He said, I just do unto other what others do unto me, and want done onto me.
