Cotto aiming to crash Pacquiao's 'Karaoke Party'

Pacquiao singing at Jimmy Kimmel Live (AP Photo)

Okay, let's have a little bit of fun before Freddie Aguilar starts crying again about Pacquiao's newfound success singing a foreigner's song on national television.

Had I known any better, Manny Pacquiao's rendition of Dan Hill's classic love song "Sometimes When We Touch" was an indirect message to Miguel Cotto for their fight next Saturday November 14 in Las Vegas. It was as if he was telling Cotto, "while you kill yourself in training camp taking things too seriously, I'm here rehearsing for my Karaoke party after I spank your Boricua butt"- or not. But like I said, let's have fun with this.

Pacquiao sure put on a show no boxer has ever done before while at Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, singing on network television like he was promoting a Platinum Hits album. The lyrics of the song he dedicated to Cotto went like this:

Sometimes when we touch (gloves)
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide (kneeling to pray at a corner of the ring)
I wanna hold (punch) you til I die
Til we both break down and cry (tears of joy after the fight)
I wanna hold (punch) you till the fear in me subsides

But just like a score of 69 after you felt like you hit all the right notes on the "Magic Mic", Cotto is aiming to crash Pacquiao's "Karaoke party" and remind him that singing will not help him any inside the boxing ring. The last time the Rican checked, Pacquiao is called the "Mexicutioner" not the "Boricutioner" and when it comes to all-time title fights between Filipinos and Puerto Ricans, Cotto enjoys the historical edge. My unofficial count has PR ahead 6-1-1 with the lone loss coming at the hands of young Pinoy phenom Marvin Sonsona. Ouch! That's almost as good as Pacquiao's record for the past 4 years.

Cotto is focused and is playing no games. The only time I've seen him smile on camera is when he is with his family. Not to say that is beneficial for him or not but you already know he has no time to mess with a TV show or listen to Pacquaio serenade America. As far as he's concerned, his fists pays the bills and intends to shove it up Pacquiao's mouth to silence him come November 14. If he fails however and Pacquiao does hits his "notes" and score a Frank Sinatra-esque standing ovation- you already know- there will be plenty more scenes like this video I posted below.
