In 2007, Juan Carlos Osorio took over as head coach of the Chicago Fire, replacing Dave Sarachan.
Osorio became the franchise's third coach, and his Fire stint was incredibly brief: 15 regular-season games, posting a 6-3-6 record, and a trip to the Eastern Conference Championship. After topping D.C. United, 3-2, on aggregate in the semifinals, Chicago fell to New England, 1-0 in the East title match.
Later that year, Osorio left the Fire for "family and personal reasons," as simply stated by Fire GM John Guppy, and took up shop with the New York Red Bulls, leading them to the MLS Cup last year.
That 2008 runner-up performance to the Columbus Crew feels like an eternity these days as the Red Bulls continue to add to their MLS legacy as the worst road team ever.
