U.S. Men's National Team head coach Bob Bradley announced his 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup roster on Thursday.
The lineup has a heavy dose of Major League Soccer talent, with 15 current MLS players on the 23-man roster. The team opens Gold Cup play at 6 p.m. PT on July 4, when the Americans take on Grenada at Qwest Field in Seattle.
Here is the MLS breakdown:
• Chicago Fire: Jon Busch, GK; Logan Pause, MF
• Colorado Rapids: Colin Clark, MF
• Columbus Crew: Chad Marshall, D; Robbie Rogers, MF
• D.C. United: Santino Quaranta, F
• FC Dallas: Kenny Cooper, F
• Houston Dynamo: Brian Ching, F; Stuart Holden, MF
• Kansas City Wizards: Davy Arnaud, MF; Jimmy Conrad, D
• New England Revolution: Jay Heaps, D
• Real Salt Lake: Kyle Beckerman, MF
• Seattle Sounders FC: Brad Evans, MF
• Toronto FC: Sam Cronin, MF
Coach Bradley obviously is hoping to give some other players their chance to shine as he tries to solidify a World Cup roster, should the team qualify without a hitch. Only six Gold Cup players have more than 10 caps under their belt. Among the MLS contingent, Clark, Cronin, Evans, Heaps, Holden and Pause are looking for their first cap.
Three goalkeepers are on the roster, but only two will be with the team to begin the tournament. The Fire's Busch will remain with Chicago unless needed if there is a suspension or injury.
