July is the month for summer blockbusters. Transformers 2, Ice Age 3, Public Enemies, Harry Potter 6, and G-Force are all expected to make over $100 million dollars this summer. With more and more theaters offering these kinds of films on multiple screens, independent films and foreign films often get pushed to offpeak hours or even out of the megaplexes completely.

Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) is bringing the 2009 Global Lens Film Series to Orlando to broaden the horizons of members and the Central Florida film-viewing public. The Global Lens Film Series is sponsored by the Global Film Initiative, which is designed to "promote cross-cultural understanding" through films of all genres. This year's treasures are from filmmakers in Ecuador, Iran, Macedonia, Morocco, Brazil, Mozambique, and other countries not usually thought of as blockbuster film producers. 2009 is the sixth year of the series, and from January to November the 11 films will be shown in 35 locations across North America.

The first film, Sleepwalking Land will be shown on July 10-12 at OMA. The story is set in Mozambique and follows an orphan as he befriends an elderly storyteller. Together, they traverse the war-torn country looking for the boy's remaining relatives.

Tickets are $7 for OMA members and $12 for nonmembers. Tickets are $8 for children of nonmembers, though none of the films are rated and may contain content unsuitable for children and teens. The Photograph, for example, takes place in a brothel.

Each film will premier on a Friday at 4 pm and/or 7 pm, and will be shown again the following Sunday at 1:30 pm. These times can vary, so be sure to consult the OMA calendar to verify times before you leave the house.

The remaining films and dates are:

July 17-19: Getting Home

July 31-August 2: Song from the Southern Seas

August 14-16: Mutum

August 28-30: Possible Lives

September 11-September 13: What a Wonderful World
