"World Focus" with Blase Bonpane

Blase Bonpane is "the most underrated humanist of the past decade." ~ Los Angeles Weekly

Blase Bonpane of Los Angeles area is a tireless activist against U.S. intervention in Central America, Director of the Office of the Americas and a Senior Research Fellow at the Council on Hemispheric Affairs.

Bonpane worked on the ground for peace in many countries where U.S. policy is in question.  He worked in Latin America, Cuba and Iraq. He led fact-finding delegations to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba and more recently to Chiapas and Colombia

Numerous awards have been given to Bonbpane in recognition of his commitment to peace and social justice.  He has received  several from the American Civil Liberties Union and a Certificate of Commendation for his pursuit of peace in Central America by the City of Los Angeles.

Bonpane is author of two books. Guerrillas of Peace on the Air (South End Press), stems from his experience as a Maryknoll priest in Guatemala during the 1960s. He was expelled from that country for his efforts on behalf of the poor and disenfranchised.  He is credited for initiating the historic dialog in Latin America between Christianity and Marxism.

The most recent of Bobpane’s books, Common Sense for the 21st Century (Red Hen Press) is compilation of his powerful radio commentaries broadcast over national and international radio.

Among numerous other humanitarian activities, Bonpane hosts radio program "World Focus" in Los Angeles on Pacifica network station KPFK.

This Sunday, Bonpane’s two guests are:

Dr. Juan Almandares, Executive Director of the Centre for the Prevention, Rehabilitation and Treatment of Victims of Torture in Honduras will address torture issues.

Ann Wright, retired US Army Reserves Colonel, former U.S. Diplomat, and Shae Popovich, Associate Director, OOA will speak about their peace delegation to Gaza.
