Using the economy as an excuse to stop circulating money invites lack and limitation into your life, while activating the Law of Circulation promotes prosperity.

In a recent Denver Post article, Joanne Davidson shares some interesting stories about how people are using the economy as an excuse to not pay. According to Davidson, there was a “young professional who wanted to switch from one expensive hairdresser to another, but lacked the nerve to tell her present stylist the truth. So she claimed she had been laid off.”

Davidson also shares a story about a woman who just wanted out of her “iron-clad” health club contract, for no reason other than she didn’t like the health club. The stay-at-home mother and wife of a corporate VP considered honoring the remaining ten contract months, but then, “cooked up a tale about her family's economic woes and pleaded her case to the membership director.”

Davidson even went on to say that some charitable organizations suspect “wealthy patrons aren't being truthful when they claim their net worth has been decimated to the point they can no longer afford even a single ticket to a fundraiser they'd supported in years.”

There are good reasons for choosing to make cutbacks. Certainly coping with a job loss, the threat of a foreclosure or facing retirement in an unstable market would warrant curbing expenditures. I personally have tightened my belt in the last year after transitioning out of a job and starting freelance. But by using the recession as an excuse we need to be mindful of the message we’re sending out, and stop!

Think about what you’re putting out to the Universe when you say, “I can’t afford that!” If you’re one of those individuals using the economy as an excuse, you’re inviting lack and limitation into your life. Is that really what you want?

The Universal Law of Circulation suggests that what we send out we’ll receive back, and then some! What we give to one, we will get from another; multiplied. Rather than stopping the flow which attracts deficiencies in our lives, we should constantly give. We also should give without expecting anything in return, but when we receive we must also be willing to accept the gift.

Dr. Roger Teel of Mile Hi Church recently said in a sermon, “Money is called currency for a reason!” It’s meant to flow. He also reminded me that “God is my instant, constant and unlimited source.” My employer is not my source, nor the economy, and certainly not my inheritance!

The Law of Circulation is not limited to only money. If you are someone who has been hurt by the economy, and feel that financial contributions are truly a hardship, look at other ways to stay in the flow of circulation. Give of your time to help someone in need. Donate your talents to a worthwhile cause. When you are in the flow of giving and receiving your assets will increase. Whereas, if you’re not circulating, not giving, you’re stagnating. The likely end result will be that your assets will diminish.

If you’ve been hit hard by the recession and feel you can’t afford to fuel the economy with circulating money, consider taking baby steps! The ministers at Mile Hi Church encourage their Science of Mind students to join an “Unexpected Income Club.” Whenever a participant encounters unexpected income in their lives, they donate 10% of it to a good cause. Notice that I said unexpected income? Interestingly, most students experience that each week they see their contributions going up, reflecting their increased unexpected income.

But also try simple things that don’t cost money and see how the Universe responds to you. For example, as you interact throughout your day, smile at people and watch how your day unfolds. Or consider performing random acts of kindness and see what comes into your life.

In the days that follow, as you are approached to contribute to a cause you normally would, resist from using the economy as an excuse not to. Resist from using the recession as a reason to pass on things that you have already committed to. Remember, by giving attention to a floundering economy, we empower the recession and invite lack and limitation into our life.

Take baby steps and experiment with the Law of Circulation by giving with no expectation and a willingness to receive.

Namaste!
