Anyone who has endured the death of a cherished pet can empathize with the grief that Jessica Simpson must be feeling at the sudden loss of her Maltese-poodle mix named Daisy, who was snatched by a coyote -- right in front of Simpson -- on September 14.
After searching for Daisy -- putting up posters and enlisting the aid of pet locator service, FindToto.com -- Simpson has apparently accepted the fact that she may never locate Daisy -- either dead or alive.
It has left the star at the "lowest point in her life," PEOPLE magazine reports, quoting unnamed friends of Simpson's. "Daisy was her baby," one friend tells PEOPLE. "It's going to put her into a tailspin. It will put her into the worst place ever."
For five years, Daisy was Simpson's constant companion and confidante -- traveling with Simpson in luxury dog carrers by Louis Vuitton and Gucci, attending celebrity events and providing her unconditional love. The pretty pooch saw Simpson through her divorce from Nick Lachey and failed relationships with John Mayer, and most recently, Tony Romo.
According to PEOPLE, Daisy was Simpson's "security blanket" and the singer would call Daisy at home to say goodnight whenever she stayed out late.
"Daisy never betrayed her. Daisy was always there for her," a Simpson friend tells PEOPLE. "This is serious. Jessica’s heart is broken."
