Preceded by a gathering of the Indianapolis Social Media Club on Wednesday, Thursday's @IndyTweetUp is the most successful "Indy social media" gathering to date. The juxtaposition of the holiday weekend and the birthdays of two local social media personalities Lorraine Ball (@roundpeg) and Erik Deckers (@edeckers) combined to attract at least 40 persons!
Seeing such a turnout caused me to reminisce about some of our earliest Indianapolis TweetUps such as one in March 2008 at Buffalo Wild Wings in Pike Township when I was "grateful" that even a dozen people showed up in those early days when they're were so few of us on Twitter here in Indy. It made me think of my early days as department head at Purdue-West Lafayette when I knew every student enrolled in my academic department. Today, I realize that I knew very few of the people on the attendance list above!
It makes me wonder how we can "fix" that so I hope that you will offer your suggestions in the comments. In the meantime, be sure to use the #indy hashtag to identify yourselves to one another and be sure to follow @IndyTweetUp as we try to do a better jof of getting the word out about what we hope will be a steady (and regular) stream of future events.
Thanks again to Nancy Myrland for organizing this great example of what's possible!
