Time for a yogic “escape?”
Seems like these are difficult days for just about everyone. The toll taken by a flailing economy and widespread unemployment (especially in California) has been a tough burden to bear. Fortunately, there are some great ways to soothe the soul and invigorate your sense of resilience. And not all of them cost a lot.
I’m referring to a yoga retreat—some time away, whether in the Redwoods or on the Mexican Caribbean coastline (depending on your budget)—focused on the “inner self,” meant to help you stay centered during such trying times.
As I mentioned, a yoga retreat does not have to be expensive. For example, you could just organize a bunch of friends and go camping, creating a schedule of yoga and meditation activities interspersed by hiking, meditation or reflection.
Or, if you’d like to try a step up, consider any the following local (well, California, at least) retreat spots and activities:
· July 9-12, 2009: Four-Day Yoga and Beach Retreat in Encinitas, CA; “Refreshing Treat for Mind, Body and Soul,” at the Portofino Beach Inn on Hwy 101, near the ocean. Email
peace@yogalife.net for more information
· July 10-12, 2009: “Yoga Practice: An Ongoing Metamorphosis,” with Thomas Michael Fortel. Held at Esalen Institute (Big Sur, about 100 miles north of San Luis Obispo). For more information, visit
http://www.esalen.org · July 31-August 2, 2009: “Reclaiming the Sacred Within: A Yoga Practice and Meditation,” with Charu Rachlis. Held at Esalen Institute (Big Sur, about 100 miles north of San Luis Obispo). For more information, visit
http://www.esalen.org · Ongoing personal yoga retreats, arranged by individual reservation at the Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville (south of Santa Cruz), CA. For more information, see
http://www.mountmadonna.org
Ready to go just a little further afield? Consider one of the following:
· July 16-29, 2009, August 20-24, 2009, September 17-30, 2009, on the Mayan “Riviera,” featuring instructor TJ Jackson. Retreats include: Accommodation in a lagoon suite, daily breakfast, morning and afternoon yoga sessions, use of Sense spa facilities, One Temazcal ritual, a detoxifying session in the sweat lodge on the spa island, a group tour of a mystic Mayan temple inside a cenote (freshwater sinkhole) and one spa treatment. Enjoy!
