The Williamsburg Botanical Garden will be teaching a series of classes on Monarch butterflies this summer.
The class will be taught by Barb Dunbar, a York County master gardener, a Virginia master naturalist and a York County junior master gardener leader.
Spend the summer on a journey with Monarch butterflies that will end with their journey to Mexico this fall. In June, you will learn about their life cycle and why their diet keeps them safe. Then you will plant their only host plant, the milkweed in the garden. Kids will receive free seeds to take home and plant.
In September you will continue this journey when you release Monarch caterpillars into the garden and learn more about this important pollinator. In October, a Monarch expert will help you tag some butterflies before they make their long migration to Mexico.
Admission is free and adults are also welcome.
Bring a water bottle, gloves, trowel and an umbrella. This first of these classes will be on....
