Since Barack Obama is from Illinois, there are a lot of parallels being drawn between his inauguration and that of one Abraham Lincoln. You can't blame people for making the obvious connection, but I like it how the Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball is taking it one step further. According to Destination D.C., the tourism and marketing arm for Washington, Abraham Lincoln's inaugural ball was held in what is today the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM). So of course, it chose SAAM as the location for the Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball. It will be on Sunday, January 18 at 8 p.m. SAAM is located at 8th and F Streets in the District. Tickets are $375 for general admission and $500 for VIP. Guests are asked to dress black tie, but Victorian attire is also welcome. The evening will feature food, an open bar, some sort of entertainment and museum tours. SAAM is pretty cool so it would be interesting to get a tour at the ball, especially if someone is dressed in Victorian clothing.

Proceeds from the ball will go towards SAAM and the American Experience Foundation. Here's the best part for some of you though. Because the proceeds go to two nonprofit organizations, a portion of your ticket price, $175, is tax deductible.
