For those of you who are religious train riders addicted to their iPhone, Amtrak has thrown you a bone.

Amtrak announced this week that it has launched an iPhone application that will allow customers with the Apple phone to buy tickets, change reservations, check train status and review schedules. The program is no different then what any regular Web site users will encounter, it just provides the same to those who can not be tethered to an ethernet cord.

"iPhone users are some of the heaviest consumers of mobile content," said Kathleen Gordon, senior director of e-commerce for Amtrak, in a press release. "While Amtrak Mobile is compatible with any smartphone or Web-enabled mobile device, a large portion of Amtrak.com users are native to the iPhone, so we felt it was important to provide these customers with a unique and user-friendly interface that is optimized for that device."
