Aisle runners outdoors should ideally be attached to a concrete base or to plywood. High heels will poke through the runner on soft ground. Also, take the time to secure all fabric to the wood with staples.
Aisle runners are sometimes provided by the florist (as are candle holders, unity candle sets, and arches). They vary in size as determined by the walking distance of the bride or length of the aisle. Most are paper but the thicker ones are often carpet.
Your aisle runner will usually be unrolled by groomsmen or ushers – just be sure it doesn’t interfere with the flow of the ceremony. Decide in advance who will do this and go over the logistics thoroughly. After the bride exits, have someone designated to roll up the runner so that it is not in the way.
