New record low temperatures were set Sunday morning in several locations as an unseasonably cool and much drier air mass settled across the state behind a cold frontal passage.

The cities of Meridian, Greenwood, Greenville and Vicksburg all set new record lows with Crystal Springs tying its record low after temperatures dropped well down into the 50s with mid and upper 40s in some locations.

New Record Lows:

-Greenwood: 50 F
-Greenville: 50 F
-Vicksburg: 49 F
-Meridian: 52 F
-Crystal Springs: 55 F (tied)

Greenville's low temperature of 50 degrees broke a record low that has stood for over 85 years (1924).

Many other locations came very close to tying or breaking their record lows.

Jackson's low temperature of 55 degrees was only 4 degrees off of tying or breaking its record low temperature of 51 degrees set back in 1952.

Close record low temperatures:

                                         Actual Low                  Record Low
-Yazoo City:                           58                                 55
-Canton:                                 50                                 49
-Natchez:                               55                                 54
-Winona:                                50                                 48
-Tupelo:                                 52                                  51
-Holly Springs:                      45                                 43

This was indeed the coldest morning overall statewide in 4 months with low temperatures that averaged 10 to 20 degrees below seasonal averages.

One more morning of very cool temperatures are expected before low temperatures climb back to around normals.

Low temperatures are expected to bottom out in the low to mid 50s north and central with upper 50s to low 60s south early Monday morning.

By Tuesday morning, low temperatures will be back up in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees across the state.

"SUVs create global warming" is two lies in one. Industrial and automotive combustion produces carbon monoxide, not carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide, much less monoxide, does not drive climate.
