More than 700 scientists discredit man-made global warming fears

59 additional scientists distrust global warming

“59” might be the magic number for Americans to start thinking twice about global warming fears.

59 scientists around the world have officially added their names to the much-publicized U.S. Senate Minority Report that denounces claims about man-made global warming. This pushes the tally of skeptical scientists to well over 700.

According to a new report, the 700-plus scientists are “now more than 13 times the number of U.N. scientists who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.” Many of the scientists are “affiliated with prestigious institutions” including NASA, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Defense Department, Princeton University, as well as countless others.

Skeptical scientific voices are enjoying more and more company in past weeks, especially in light of a recent article published in The Australian that says Japanese scientists are largely rejecting man-made global warming claims. Japanese Geologist Dr. Shigenori Maruyama, professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, said this month that “there was widespread skepticism among his colleagues about the IPCC's fourth and latest assessment report that most of the observed global temperature increase since the mid-20th century 'is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.'"

According to a report published by the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, Maruyama noted that when this question was raised at a Japan Geoscience Union symposium last year, "the result showed 90 percent of the participants do not believe the IPCC report.” The same report notes:

Botanist Dr. David Bellamy, a famed UK environmental campaigner, former lecturer at Durham University, and host of a popular UK TV series on wildlife, says the international promotion of man-made global warming fears are nearing their end. “The science has, quite simply, gone awry. In fact, it’s not even science any more, it’s anti-science,” says Bellamy, who used to believe in man-made warming.

Perhaps Princeton physicist Dr. Robert H. Austen, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, said it best earlier this month: “Unfortunately, Climate Science has become Political Science … It is tragic that some perhaps well-meaning but politically-motivated scientists who should know better have whipped up a global frenzy about a phenomena which is statistically questionable at best.”

Increasingly, the number of scientists skeptical of global warming seem to be responding to both doomsday predictions of climate change as well as peer-reviewed analyses that downplay claims that man-made global warming is a reality. Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Anastasios Tsonis of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee remarked in Geophysical Research Letters that while Earth undergoes natural climate changes: “I don’t think we can say much about what the humans are doing.” In almost every way, his appropriately ambiguous thoughts seem to best underscore the current war between skeptics and alarmists.

Something I rarely see in interviews with those who don't believe the global warming hype, is any indication of whether they still believe that we must reduce our harmful emissions for other reasons, namely our health. Whether you believe in global warming or not, I would think that everyone can agree on a desire to have a cleaner world.

Neil, of course we want a cleaner, better world. That's one more reason to fight the global warming HOAX. Based on a lie, socialist politicians plan to waste billions on a lie. Policies based on the hoax will multiply poverty. Poor countries can't protect the environment. Just look at Haiti.

In addition to the more than 700 international scientists, 32,000 American scientists have signed onto a petition that states, "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate…"

More of the same nonsense from Marc Morano and Senator Inhoffe. As for the supposed 700 'scientists' see here for one debunking of this list in an earlier incarnation:

And for a succinct overview of why this list and other denialist nonsense is ignored by rational people:

While I am at it why not refer to this site for a complete debunking of the OISM petition:

Everything has a limit on what it can carry. Be it a boat an island or a planet. No one knows what the truth is. So unless you are fossil fuel company why would you not want not error on the side well being? What’s wrong with cleaner air? Why not clean up our oceans and waterways? Why not look to the future. Fossil fuels are a finite source so why not plan for a future without them?
Just a side note. I have done a bit of research and MANY of these “scientists” that deny man made causes are funded by the fossil fuel industry.

You call attacking the character of good people debunking? Let's take a peek at how they are "debunking". "with no education, but likes to say he has one" - gee, so that PhD somehow doesn't count as an education? Hmm, quite a few in there say things like "involved with industry funded groups". So if they make money from anybody other than groups you approve of they somehow aren't scientists? Guess again.

When I see the gullible warming crowd prove their science instead of attacking anybody who doesn't agree I might reconsider but until then I am going to continue to consider gullible warming one of the biggest outright scams mankind has ever seen.

And the other article "debunking" the 32 thousand scientists doesn't exactly change my mind either. Couldn't find some guy in google? So what? Some other guy is dead now. Well that sure throws the other literally tens of thousands out the window doesn't it?

Insulting the scientist doesn't prove anything except maybe the science is so weak people can't do much of anything else. I for one certainly don't see the gullible warming crowd proving much if anything other than they are arrogant and they want to control the world.

Signing statements do not equal science. The author of this piece should look at surveys of the peer-reviewed scientific literature, which demonstrate not one single paper contradicting the basic premise that human activities are driving global warming.

You have touched on a key point regarding the credibility of scientist. As noted, too many have become political scientists and have given up science to push a point of view, get grants, or advance their careers. One must ask if the implications of alternative climate scenarios have been adequately studied. The NASA today notes the sun is at the lowest level of activity in over 100 years. If this leads to increased cooling, decreased crops and social unrest, have we really prepared? Have our officials in government really prepared for the alternatives or do they simply salivate for other ways to use a crisis to tax? We had better start to open our minds and evaluate a range of possible future scenarios.

The man made theory of global warming is just hype and here in the UK the Government have used it as a golden opportunity for a stealth tax. If the issues of Global warming was man made then the Government should axe not tax the real issues. Meaning cutting out the key problems of global warming not taxing them.
If our carbon emmissions are truly destroying the World will this see a stop to seeing third world countries develop into the modern age of fridges cars TV`s etc, I doubt it.

Even if Global Warming were man made, and we would have to completely deindustrialize within 10 years to avert complete desaster, flooding of coastal cities, deaths from heat, drought etc. EVEN then it's a basic HUMAN RIGHT to decide ONE'S OWN FATE and IF i want to have a party the next 10 years and not care about what happens thereafter, then that is my RIGHT! Sick and tired of being treated by government as children who need TO BE TOLD WHAT'S GOOD FOR US. Self destruction is a fundamental human right in the same way that free speech is. And guess what, maybe there WON'T be desaster if we keep our industry! Maybe the lied to us, and i don't want to be in the shoes of Al Gore when the public finds out about it. He might even lose his high energy mansion and his jets - oh boy!

Here's a simple law of nature (not an agenda-driven opinion, but a scientific fact) – Some amount of carbon dioxide is dissolved in water (about 60 times more per cubic foot than in the atmosphere). When the oceans warm up they release some of that CO2; when they cool they absorb some CO2. If CO2 was, in fact, the cause of increased ambient temperature (the primary basis of man-made global warming), then the increased ambient temperature would increase the temperature of ocean waters releasing more CO2 thus increasing ambient temperature which would increase the temperature of ocean waters, thus releasing more CO2 from the ocean thus causing the temperatures to go up, etc., etc. It would never end and the earth would have cooked long ago, yet we’re still here. Go figure.

Yes, Cawren, do your own research, and you'll find out that scientists can be fired or just not get funds if they dare contradict Obama or Gore. Scientists ready to support Obama, on the other hand, can have access to the billions that Obama is stealing from our children and grandchildren.

Our real threat is not global warming, but the global warming scam and the scammers (Gore, Obama, etc.). Based on a hoax, billions have already been wasted, and Obama is getting ready to use the scam to limit development, increase the cost of energy, and impose socialism on us. If the scammers get their way, unemployment, poverty and loss of freedoms will multiply. We must stop them.

It's common sense... something that's severely lacking these days. CO2 makes up approx. .15% of all atmospheric gases. Humans contribute 3% of all CO2. So how come it's 'our' 3% and not nature's 97% that's causing all this supposed warming which, BTW, is not actually warming. I've not read one peer reviewed paper definitively placing CO2 as a greenhouse gas but many papers agree that water vapor is the primary greenhouse gas, without which we would all be in a deep freeze. Many more humans die when the earth cools than when it warms. If you like to drop big names... Dr. Lindzen, MIT Climatologist who initially developed the science of climatology, says anthropogenic GW is a myth. All ice core studies show CO2 rising hundreds of years 'after' global temps rise, not before. Makes sense as more warmth=more life=more CO2. What's the problem? Oh, of course... there 'has' to be a problem, always, for the left to use as a method of controlling economies and social engineering, their holy grail, and the problem has to be of 'our', humans, doing. Listen up on the left... the 'sun' is the major force behind temp changes. DUH!

Neil: CO2 is not a "harmful emission". It's what plants breathe - in order to make oxygen for us animals.

CO2 is a trace gas in the atmosphere. Slight increases in CO2 have been shown to be a RESULT of warming NOT A CAUSE of it.

Democrats and Al Gore are promoting man made global warming in order to raise taxes on everyone so they can spend, spend, spend. Al Gore is in it for the money. Other nations are in it to grab the wealth of the United States through international carbon taxes.

Enough of this foolishness. Please VOTE AGAINST EVERY INCUMBENT POLITICIAN IN WASHINGTON next time you vote. They are not acting in our best interests.

Over 37,000 scientists have signed petition stating that global warming as presented by Al Gore is basically a hoax.

Interesting on a recent hike along Hadrian’s Wall in Scotland there is a museum at the ancient Roman Fort near Haltwhistle. Some of the artifacts include Romans records that state in the year 30AD there was a record crop of grapes and wine production in that area.

What is interesting is that grapes no longer grow in that region because it is too cold today.
The Romans records indicate it was hotter by 5 degrees 2000 years ago.
So what caused the global warming trend then? The industrial age was still 1800 years away.
