Cigar store clerk scares away armed robbers

A cigar store in Waco, Texas was held up by two bandits, who made off with cash, though it has been speculated that they probably won’t return to the store, especially after one of the shop’s clerks had scared them away.

Sources say that before the holdup, that night seemed like any other night; but soon enough, it turned out to be different from that.

The robbery occurred at approximately 12:40am Wednesday, at the Fiesta Smoke Shop, when two masked armed robbers stormed into the establishment, confronted two of its clerks, and demanded money.

One of the clerks, identified as Amar Tayeh, declared that once it happened, he initially fell in a state of shock and was unaware of what was actually going on. However, after almost a minute, he allowed the robbers to seize whatever they demanded, which included cash from the register as well as cash from the two store clerks. As soon as he got the opportunity, Tayeh grabbed his gun and opened fire at the robbers.

Luckily, the store’s security cameras recorded the incident. According to those videos, the bandits headed toward the exit after they were done. That was when Tayeh went to go grab a revolver that was concealed behind the counter. Soon enough, he began shooting at the two fleeing armed robbers with it, and a shootout ensues, with the shots being fired at close range.

When he ran out of bullets, Tayeh ran after the robbers while they got away, but they promptly disappeared.

Tayeh added that during the shootout, “he was only in his zone,” and that the situation did not seem to frighten him.

At least one of the bandits may have been shot, according to Tayeh. When he was asked why he chose to retaliate, he responded that “he wanted to teach the bandits a lesson.”

As a matter of fact, this was not the first time Tayeh’s store was held up. It was known as only the most recent in a series of holdups aiming at Waco area convenience stores in the past few weeks. With that said, Tayeh added that he was expecting this store to be robbed again sometime, which was why he was prepared. He also said that the bandits made off with nearly $150.

Thankfully, neither Tayeh nor his partner was harmed.

The robbers, who wore black jackets and ski masks during the ordeal, are still at large.
