Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell – the sixth man to walk on the moon – laid a bombshell on ABC News with the comment "the UFO phenomenon is real" last July. Yet why didn't other major media pick up on this fascinating story? Wouldn't the public be interested to know? Wouldn't you want to know?
The article on ABC's website leads with "Of the more than 6 billion people in the world, only 12 have ever set foot on the moon." Edgar Mitchell is a member of that elite group of 12 space pioneers. Astronauts are some of the most highly trained and respected members of our society, yet the major media seems to feel that the comments on UFOs of this most esteemed American on the subject are not newsworthy.
There are a few exceptions, including the ABC News article mentioned. Below are key quotes from this excellent article on the revelations of Edgar Mitchell regarding UFOs.
NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell, a member of the Apollo 14 mission that landed on the moon in 1971, elaborated on his own fluid thoughts on the universe, arguing that alien visits to Earth have been covered up by governments for more than 60 years.
'I happen to be privileged enough to be in on the fact that we have been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomenon is real,' Mitchell said. 'It has been covered up by governments for quite some time now,' added Mitchell, who grew up in Roswell, N.M., the location of the controversial 1947 incident in which some believe the U.S. military covered up the crash scene of an alien spacecraft.
In fact Mitchell, pioneering founder and board member of the highly respected Institute of Noetic Sciences, has spoken out numerous times in a variety of major events about UFOs, yet received amazingly little coverage. The only other major media source to give significant coverage to Mitchell's intriguing claims to my knowledge is Larry King on CNN. In a fascinating interview with King last July, Mitchell talked about his experience with the famous Roswell incident in 1947.
All of my experience comes from what I call the old timers. Because I lived in the area ... and because I was an astronaut, some of them wanted to get it off their chest before they passed on. We knew many of the people, including the ranch where this was discovered, and in spite of all of the security oaths, the talk in the community was ... that it was an alien craft..
Nor is Mitchell alone among famous and respected people who have had experiences with UFOs. A quote from former CIA Director Admiral R.H. Hillenkoetter in a New York Times article dated Feb. 28, 1960 is quite revealing: "It is time for the truth to be brought out in open Congressional hearings. Behind the scenes, high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense. To hide the facts, the Air Force has silenced its personnel." Why was this quote buried on page L30 of the Times and not reported widely in other media at the time?
The U.K.'s former Chief of Defense has also publicly stated, "I have frequently been asked why a person of my background—a former Chief of the Defense Staff, a former Chairman of the NATO Military Committee—why I think there is a cover-up [of] the facts about UFOs. Governments fear that if they did disclose those facts, people would panic. I don’t believe that at all. I’ve said so in print. There is a serious possibility that we are being visited by people from outer space. It behooves us to find out who they are, where they come from, and what they want." Sadly they were right, the majority believe that Ufos are BS.
There are strange objects that observe us. I know; I have witnessed two of these craft. Both during an air force display weekend in Australia!
I dont think the people in power want to tell the truth, they have too much invested and would fear a lynching, and imagine the effect on all our religious relatives/friends!

Oh I forgot, I have had three sightings in the last 14 years here in the UK, each time with three different people. Two act like it didn't happen and the third only talks about it when we're alone, and he's already forgeting details!
In a brief discussion on another website, one commentor suggested that the government might actually do more harm to the issue of UFOs by admitting to their existence...
"No one trusts anything these guys in Washington say. Why should this subject be any different?"
I guess... if it came right down to it, I'd be personally far less apt to believe that a stop sign was red if someone in the government said it was so. The point is valid.

Strange that you would write a current story about an article that was released in July 2008.
Glenn thinks it's strange that a current article would be written about an event that took place last year. Our history books report on events that took place in the past. So do recent articles that want to contemplate events that have significant meaning that have taken place in the past.
I know Edgar is telling the truth. I need no convincing that little greys are visiting Earth because i met one. It was friendly and the new jet fighters you have on Earth compared to their flying machines is to compare a snail to a bullet.
The goverments of leading countries don't understand the situation with UFOs regardless of the fact that they know about their existence. As a matter of fact Aliens live in our Earth's atmosphere for several thousands years. They reproduce themselves over there not only biologically but by building new spacecraft (artificial cities) for their growing population as well. Their scientific
knowledges are thousands years ahead of ours. They have no intention to destroy life of people or Earth because they have mentality to which we did not grow up yet, to comprehend. Like more intelegant beings they don't punish people for their mistakes: to destroy Alien's spacecraft which is practically impossible with earth technology. They treat Earth population like parents treat their kids. It is time to recognize the fact that UFOs are our neighbors. Once again when the debunkers are confronted they look like idiots. I don't think any of the debunkers have any right to be on the media as authority figures when it comes to UFOs. Are they experts in UFO investigative research or have they any in depth knowledge of UFO history or even anything else UFO related. The truth is no they don't and it so obvious.
All they have is a science background and the party line mantra. Hey! Debunkers and desktop skeptics get off of your asses and do some real boots on the ground investigating if you want anyone's respect other then your "debunking groupies" who are the real "true believers".
They are ridicules.
MOGUL was a kite made of balsa wood and balloons people (and 700 feet of cord that somehow was misplace at Roswell... opps lost it). Brazels son himself was an expert on balsa wood from the many plane modals he built he would have known what MUGAL material was immediately. This information came from real research. Boots on the ground... talk to witnesses... follow up with other witnesses research done by REAL RESSEARHERS.
Could you imagine, the state of any natural scientific discipline, if the investigations were done at home. We would still be in the dark ages. These debunkers are not authorizes on the subject or even the particulars of a UFO case They may be required to be a speaking on... they should not even be on television when it comes to this subject.

Remember, NASA normally never comments crackpot claims and accusations. However, this time NASA immediatly released a statement, that refused all of Mitchell's claims in an unusual clarity - as lies. [To not share sombody's opionion is a diplomatic wording for a lie] Not because NASA wanted to hide something, but to mitigate the huge damage Mitchell did to the scientific community. Of coarse, UFO crazies are unimpressed about such nasty things like facts and tangible proofs. They rather believe into (apparent) credibility of fairy tale tellers. As a scientist, Mitchell knows exactly what a scientific proof is. Despite this knowledge, he did not even offer a proof, but simply parrotted mainstream UFO/conspiracytainment-'knowledge'. we the people want to know the truth about ufos. its been to long that this has been denied. lots of people already know. and there is a lot of information out there. sure wish the government and media would help straighten it all out. there are a lot of accusations out there on this subject. and it needs to be brought to the surface. this has the potential to help man evolve in so many ways. some of us are aware of the ancient record. which is littered with all kinds of information. we have a right to know the truth!

The internet should expose the truth but the whistle blowers are afraid to post the truth in fear of being traced by big brother back to their computer and eliminated.
If there was an independent party where whistle blowers could send their information by anonymous untracible mail.And this party would post this information on to the net. I'm sure after awhile,they would be eliminated.
Well UFO's are very real & I know because my husband & I & our kid's saw a UFO July 4th 2009 over our house in Chesterfield Michigan!!! It looked like a glowing orange fire ball that you could seem to see through & it moved up/down side2side & then would just sit there as if they or it was watching us. I dont know of any man made object that can move/fly that way & I live ontop of an airforce base... LOL ur right Blake the Gov- is full of bs
I am a firm and avid believer in this, and would do anything at all for this to get out more than it has been, for none of this is a hoax or a lie but from the media itself.
And further more, I have felt for a long time something is and supposed to happen that will change the way we think and feel about this planet and our creators, and yes I say our creators as a group and not just one being.
I'm from Montreal. i went to Pont Rouge near Québec city to spend the week at my sister house with my wife and kids. My sister called me a couple weeks ago to let me know that she saw three crafts (triangular ones)about at 100m from the house near a radio antenna. That happen in between 2:30 and 4:00 o'clock am. She said to me that one of the crafts came right beside and on top of the house, she look looks at the craft and in between the triangle, it was like invisible but not completly, it was like looking in between water...she got scare, she said that they stayed there for 5 seconds like looking at her by the big window. Suddenly the craft went on top of the house then turn around and went back to the radio antenna.(middle of Feb). First night, i was in the computer with my sister when suddenly i saw this light but very fast just like a camera flash, my sister ran to the washroom right beside the computer desk and she saw this flashy object in the black sky, all that in 5 seconds.
Second night...Was about 2:30am i was in the washroom when my sister she shout me from the living room down stairs to come and see one of the crafts she saw last time. I ran down the stairs but i got there seconds too late. They're there, they're there, down the sand crater(sand crater is sorrounded by trees)not even at 50m from the house! she said. It took at least 10 minutes before i was able to see the craft go up very slowly then turn to the left and very slowly again, go to the radio antenna at 100m from the house. Right after that(5 Min), i saw these orange-red lights near where i saw the craft going up at 50m from the house. went at 25m in between the house and the lights. Then saw these lights moving in between the trees at the same time walking on the icy snow. I got scare i was saying to my self, what's going to happen if i go further!!! Can you imagine? i went there with 2 knifes and a hatchet, just in case !!! I just went back to the house.(Thursday 5th of Feb.)

Wouldn't it be nice to at least know that we're not alone. We all know the government keeps things secret because of national security. But how is letting us know that there is intelligent life out there a breach of national security?
We can't exist all by ourselves indefinitely. If intelligent life is out there and we know it, I think people deserve to know. If it doesn't, and all of this is simply hysteria or a big joke played on humanity, it really paints a sad picture.
Then again, what's sadder than people who read a book of fantasy named the bible and believe it's word for word, reality. So fantasy is reality. How is that any better. All it would do is make us all look even worse. We need to open a window and let some air in. Truth is like the sun. You just have to let it shine.
hard to believe he wouldn't have had "access" or "need to know" - as they would have to be trained and prepared for the contingency of contact - on the 14 mission the two astronauts say "we've had visitors again - hardly worth mentioning "..... (?)
