Though the search and rescue efforts have officially ended in Haiti, yesterday a man was pulled from the Haiti earthquake after being trapped for 11 days. It is believed that due to his location in the grocery store, he had access to food, Coca-Cola, and beer. Though he was able to eat and drink while being buried, he still suffered from dehydration and needed medical treatment after his rescue.

French rescue workers pulled him to safety and CNN’s Christine Amanpour spoke with Lieutenant Colonel Chrisophe Renou who serves as the Chief of Operations for the French search and rescue team regarding the amazing rescue. She asked him to describe how they were able to reach him and pull him to safety.

Lt. Colonel Renou said that they used a special camera that can fit into a small hole and allow them to monitor the rescue efforts as they are underway. In addition to the camera, a French woman who is part of the rescue team went into the hole and helped push Wismond Jean-Pierre Exantus to safety.
This was one of over 100 rescues, attributed to international search and rescue teams that have brought hope to those who have loved ones trapped under the rubble.
