Serene Branson stroke update: Report says Serene Branson fine (videos)
On Monday, February 14, 2011, the Los Angeles CBS station where Serene Branson works released a statement regarding her condition. Serene Branson caused a stir while covering the 53rd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night when during her live broadcast she began slurring her speech and speaking incoherently. Rumors flew wild questioning whether or not the Emmy nominated reporter had suffered a stroke on air. The statement released today by WCBS says that Serene Branson is fine.
“Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast. Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning,” the statement reads.
Though the station has released the update many in the blogosphere, on Facebook and Twitter have taken issue with the determination that Serene Branson is fine. CBS News interviewed Dr. John Krakauer, Associate Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at John Hopkins School of Medicine. According to CBS, even Dr. Krakauer is surprised by the announcement.
“I am a little surprised. Frankly, I would have admitted her,” he told CBS News. According to the Stroke Association sudden confusion, trouble speaking or difficulty understanding are warning signs of a stroke.
