A fireball UFO that was spotted south of Mansfield, Ohio is finally getting the attention it deserves. A January 4, 2012 report said that the UFO sighting is being investigated by Mutual UFO Network of Ohio. Thomas Wertmen is reportedly the lead investigator on the case.
That doesn't mean the UFO sighting has been ignored until now. On the contrary, according to Emily Valdez, Fox 8 News Reporter:
"The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed there were several reports of a mysterious object down in the woods, and they, along with local law enforcement and the National Guard, scoured the area in case it was a plane crash."
Unfortunately, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the National Guard turned up nothing during their search. On the bright side, the well respected Mutual UFO Network is stepping in for a closer look.
One of the witnesses, Don Beverly, didn't see the UFO while it was moving through the sky, but he did see the afterglow once it landed. He believes it was a meteor. His son Rick was fortunate to see the unidentified flying object as it made its way toward the Earth. He told Fox 8 News that he saw "a ball of fire with a tail 200-yards long."
Thomas Wertman of MUFON talked to Fox 8 News about what he expects to find in his investigation, and he's not expecting an alien spaceship:
"I think that's fascinating myself -- if somebody has something that actually comes down and lands that close to them, let's go out and let's look for it, and see if we can find it you know. That's a piece of space!"
