On the August 16 edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck, the pompous, slovenly and outright cruel blowhard Glenn Beck is again blasting some of the most vulnerable in society – the long-term unemployed.
Responding to Connie Kaplan, a UWAG rally supporter, Beck said: “Don’t spend your remaining money on travel to a protest, go out and get a job!”
It must be that Beck believes that only those that work or have adequate resources should be allowed to protest. But, as far a s I know, the rich don’t go into the streets to protest. No, they buy the support of congress. The wealthy don’t protest in the streets about the lack of jobs or healthcare coverage in this nation. No, they pump congressional campaign coffers and demand tax breaks. Beck is again on the rampage, but he carries not one single fact with him during his oligarchic rant.
The mindless nature of the Beck rant continued: “You may not want the job; work at McDonalds, work two jobs.” I wrote that McDonalds has about 250,000 US employees, so if they fired each and every one, they could then hire 250,000 long-term unemployed. Does that make any sense? Of course not, but it probably made sense to Beck. The US lost 8,000,000 jobs during this recession and McDonalds, or other fast food chains, are not going to hire 8,000,000 unemployed. In fact, the job market is so tight that over the past three months, 1.115 million dropped out of the active labor force – stopped looking for a job.
Charles McMillion, the president and chief economist of MBG Information Services in Washington, is an expert on employment and has been looking closely for years at the issue of labor force participation. “Over the past three months,” he said, “1,155,000 unemployed people dropped out of the active labor force and were not counted as unemployed. Even ignoring population growth, if these unemployed had not dropped out of the labor force, simple arithmetic shows that the official unemployment rate would have risen from 9.9 percent in April to 10.2 percent in July, rather than — as it has — fallen to 9.5 percent.”
Because of normal growth in the working-age population, the labor force increases by roughly 150,000 to 200,000 people per month. If those folks were factored in, said Mr. McMillion, “unemployment now would be even higher than 10.2 percent.”
I know the First Amendment may seem simply cutesy to Beck, but the First Amendment to the US Constitution states:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Maybe to Beck the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances, should apply only to the wealthy and politically connected.
The wealthy and connected are not going to the streets to redress grievances. The only street they are familiar with when it comes to protesting grievances is K Street.
Beck continues his bombastic presentation:
“Two years is plenty of time to have lived off your neighbor’s wallet.”
Hmmm…. I wonder if 10 years was enough time for the wealthy to have had the Bush tax cuts. I wonder if eight years enough time for Halliburton to reap of dollars billions in war profits? I wonder if 30 years of failed Regan trickledown economics is enough time to see that it failed. Probably not to Beck, but two years of unemployment insurance is too much for him to handle.
Let’s see, according to the BLS there were 2.9 million job openings on the last business day of June 2010. And there are nearly 15 million unemployed and another 10 million underemployed likely looking for new jobs. A simple calculation shows that there are 8.62 people looking for each available job.
Beck ignores facts and continues with the rhetoric by saying the people at the protest were not “regular” people but socialists and anti-capitalists. Not one fact, data point or supporting evidence.

I must again apologize for the slow and unprofessional upgrade process at Examiner. With months to prepare for this change, I would have thought that they would have handled this process better. I have seen numerous complaints, but unfortunately, I can't do anything about those complaints, since they are out of my hands. I have relayed some of your desires to Examiner, but they aren't even returning emails at this point. Please be patient, since that's the only option currently.

That prikk made 32 Million alone last year, he doesn't have a clue on what people are facing right now.
Glenn Beck is 52 Cards SHORT of a FULL DECK!
and anybody that watches FOX news has been OUT-FOXED and NOT worthy of their opinion!
George
Out-Foxed is a great documentary - everyone should watch it if they get a chance - it is available on Netflix along with many every eye-opening documentaries related to our lovely congessional leadership/processes....
thanks mike, post check
Beck - what a maroon.
This unending hatefulness from people like Beck, Palin, Newt and all of the like-minded people toward average Americans makes me want to emigrate to Canada.
In the past I did not mind some of what Glen Beck had to say...even fought with my friends about why he was right on some issues. Now, he has turned his back on the less fortunate by spewing nonsense. No More Glen Beck. Shame on him. He is on the list that I will no longer listen to.
Glenn Beck is not someone I listen too he is a self absorbed a$$hole
If I didn't know better I would think Glenn Beck is a moron.
Since you know better does that mean you are sure Glenn Beck is a moron?
After watching that video I couldnt help but step outside myself! I first told off glen and his producers and the rest of fox network! then i told them not to wait for the postman, hes probably already on his way! Borderline threat!
I just watched Glenn Beck, and he needs to get out of the 70's! This is 2010, things are so much more complicated than 1970. No wonder he is so out of touch with reality.
Great article. Glen Beck may have some 'followers' but I don't believe that all of his viewers would take the same approach - particularly because certainly some of his viewers are also among the unemployed. What an idiot. Look at the bright side - he gave the 99ers some air time of FOX - I'm sure some people watching didn't know who the 99ers were before his rampage, but they do now...
Glenn Beck is mentally ill. If he weren't so filled with hate, I might feel sorry for him. As it is, he's the one who should be ashamed to call himself an "American."
There are NO jobs, Glenn; McDonald's or elsewhere. Pay attention. And who's traveling to protest? No one. Which is why attendance has been so poor.
To hell with this guy. C'mon people, begin a rally in your city. Hang flyers. Organize. Show just a little leadership. Be heard. The only difference from this blowhard and us is his ignorance and a microphone.
Many of the unemployed may not be able to travel, but you can make this happen in your cities.
Vote 'Em Out in November!

GLENN BECK SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO CALL HIMSELF A HUMAN BEING AND A AMERICAN
I watch Beck as I do with others on the left. I don't always agree with him as I don't always agree with the Left. But when some of you make the totally asinine comments that you do all it does is water down your opinions. If you're trying to make a statement--THINK before you write.
The Democrats should be rebroadcasting all of these hateful sound bites, especially those from the Senate, during the coming campaign - Republicans may think the unemployed are lazy or unamerican, but by damn they still have the right to vote!
EVERYONE, EVERYONE needs to let Glenn Beck know he stepped over the line this time b y insulting the American people - the American worker, the backbone of this country. Here's his email and the email addresses of two Fox News executives I just emailed. By the way, he's 46 years old. Anyone whose been in the workforce and a contributing member of society for longer than that needs to remind him of it.

Under reagan the mild one (recession) not modern depression they allowed 35 more weeks than 99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gop zucks
Actually, we should be ashamed to call him an American. Take away his wealth & job, then see what he says, what a hypocrite!
Take Beck's livlihood from him and he'll break down and cry like a baby. Only the tears will be real unlike his staged version of crocidile tears. After he's finished sobbing like a blithering idiot he would most likely resort back to his past crutch and drink himself to death. Gee what a terrible loss to humankind that would be. Hey Beck, let's go out. Even though I'm unemployed drinks are on me. You disgusting wimp.
does this work today
format still zucks
SOMEONE HELP, IM POSTING, AND IT WONT POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8 Billion more will come out of the Food Stamp program for Michelle Obama's Obesity program. The Congress will vote on this. Just a Half BILLION of that money would take care all the 99er's and others for a long time if needed
The Dems care more about Fat Kids then people starving or unemployed
Nancy, Harry and Obama have stuck it up all the 99er's rear.
They left you flat and went home.
But they took good care of the Teachers
ps
Some of the biz people I have talked to are scared to hire while the dems are in office. They say the pay roll tax is one reason and tax hikes.

i dislike this new format, i wish i could really say how i feel, i cant even say the abbreviation for grand old party because it wont post. it knows its a bad word! Anyways if this posts, God Bless All!
Jobless claims came out, not good, initial claims went up, continuing claims went down (I would suspect that thats because of the growing number of benefit exhaustee's)! Is the increasing number off claims at this time due to our government being on vacation? Just seems odd, am I just being paranoid! God Bless All!! BTW Im proud of Obama for pulling out our combat troops, he needs to keep reversing everything bush did; END BUSH TAX CUTS!!!!
Obama voted against the the surge which won the Iraq War. Obama is using Bush’s plan of withdrawal. Obama is losing in Afghanistan.
We should have never been there to begin with ( 1 trillion dollars later)
@stilhurtin
Stop bending over it will stop hurting !
I see this sight has found its newest a-hole
Dont worry Glenn, Im ashamed of AMERICA!! UNFUNDED/UNWARANTED WARS, TAX BREAKS FOR THE RICH! I could go on and on, but right now I wish I wasn't American because I don't like what it stands for, UNGODLY!!!

FOX NEWS SHOULD FIRE GLENN BECK.
He is disgrace as a human being and a news person. HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED. HE IS NOT AN AMERICAN OR A PERSON.
I heard Glen Beck has developed something in his vision that will make him totally blind in a few months... ANYONE KNOWS HOW SOON WILL HE GO BLIND?.... I will name that day " The Glen Beck Karma day".
That convention of angry white people in Washington yesterday was a keeper for sure. Good thing I taped it on C-SPAN, I really must look at it again to be sure that I wasn't hallucinating.
And the theme: "Restoring honor to America". Wasn't that a hoot? Restoring the honor that was snatched away by Barack Obama? Really? These fools are actually nostalgic for George W. Bush. Well, they can breathe a sigh of relief. The American people (as of this writing anyway) appear hellbent on putting these silly people back in power on Election day. Let freedom ring.
Who would have dreamed that the election of a BLACK MAN would make so many people behave in such a weird and foolish manner? It truly was something to behold. Glenn Beck: This generation's Martin Loony King. Don'cha just love it?
