It's been 37 years since I've seen a UFO - and finally this evening - Thursday, July 29, at 10:59 p.m. - I was blessed with watching something odd in the late evening sky.
Keep in mind - a UFO is not necessarily an alien craft from a far away galaxy or inter-dimensional travelers. It's just something flying through the air that you cannot immediately identify.
My 17-year-old son, Joey, and myself had just stepped out our back door onto a deck from our Scottdale, Pennsylvania home. We have a wooden ramp that moves off of this for my wife's wheelchair. Joey was off to a friend's house for the night and I was just seeing him out.
I stopped at the top of the ramp as he tromped down it into the back yard - and I looked up into the northeast sky.
A giant, green fireball suddenly caught my attention - and I immediately shouted to Joey to look up. We both watched this object silently moving in a downward motion and only lost sight of it behind our neigbor Debbie's two-story frame home one block away.
Joey and I both agreed. It was huge. We finally agreed on it being the size of a nickel held at arm's length. I have no idea exactly how far away the object was. The color was definitely green - and it seemed to be on fire. Joey recalls seeing fire spewing from behind it.
Don't ask where the photos or video are - my sighting lasted a whopping 3 seconds; so we figure Joey saw it for about 2 seconds. My $800 digital camera and my cell phone were both lying on my office desk - on the second floor.
I covered a similar story on March 31, 2010, Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Case # 22579 in this report: Florida couple questions green fireball under 1,500 feet: Meteor or UFO?
While the object felt natural - I'm still curious as to exactly what it was. So huge in the sky, I would be hard pressed to believe there are no additional witnesses out there. I called neighbor Debbie as her husband had just been at our home tinkering with an electrical project - but they had been inside.
My first sighting was in 1973 at the age of 16 - a disc-shaped UFO that I managed to get within 30 feet of. That experience ignited a lifetime of UFO interest. I may also have seen a UFO late last year at a Pennsylvania site I am currently investigating - Site 516 - but did not file a report on that one. It was off in the distance several miles and I am still not convinced it was a helicopter.
I did file a report on this object with MUFON - hoping like everyone else - that I can find out what it was or at least talk to additional witnesses. Mine is Case # 24841.
Well - back to other people's UFO sightings. I promise to keep watching the skies. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.

SEVERAL YEARS AGO,A FRIEND OF MINE,WE- HAD BEEN DRIVING ON A CARSON CITY NEVADA- RURAL ROAD AND SUDDENLY A GREEN FIRE BALL,WITH CRATERS ON IT,SPED ACCROSS THE SOUTH-EAST SKY.
WE FIGURED IT WAS HUGE,LIKE MILES ACCROSS,AND IT LIT UP THE AREA,FOE A FEW SECONDS.
WHAT I SEE IN YOUR ILLUSTRATION LOOKS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO-WHAT WE SAW.
I READ THAT ALIEN EXPLORERS USE THIS KIND OF FAKE MOON,FOR A MOTHERSHIP. THIS COULD BE THE PERFECT WAY TO CONCEAL THEIR CRAFT.
THERE WAS NO NOISE,AND NO CRASH ,SO IT DID NOT SEEM LIKE ANY NATURAL BODY OF ROCK.
THIS SMALL 'MOON' CRAFT COULD HAVE PLUNGED INTO AN INLAND LAKE,LIKE WALKER LAKE,SO GO FIGURE.THE INVADERS WOULD HAVE AN INSTANT BASE-UNDER WATER.
I see the detailed monthly MUFON report whichinclude categories of shapes:- all sorts including Saturn shaped objects get reported every month, but no green fireball category. Perhaps there should be one.
You simply do not get green fireball sightings in UK or Europe as often as in the US.They don't seem to be getting the media coverage you might expect seeing as they are so conspicuous and not being reported as UFOs.
If I recall correctly most sightings are in southern states.
I'm betting on satellite re-entry. Keep an eye on the 'net over the next couple of days, I bet other folks spotted it to. Best wishes to your wife, I hope one day soon our medical science evolves to the point where her wheelchair will be obsolete.
I always thought green fireballs were meteors or space junk and just green because of the atmosphere. I've seen a few of these and the green ones always seem to last longer than yellow meteors.
I would like to here about your experience with the disc craft when you were 17. I am very interested. I myself have only witnessed one miner sighting of a bright light that was stationary in the sky for about 10 mins, then all of a sudden it shot straight up into space from a holding position to a full (incredible) speed without any gradual excelleration. The object was out of sight in about 2 seconds. It was very earie.
Cool beans I pretty much see them every day. Welcome to the club. Check out my YouTube channel I film what most people report seeing.
Roger ....
I am highly interested in your first encounter in 1973. Could you elaborate further or have you done so elsewhere (such as filing a MUFON report, etc.)?
Thanks for your time and please keep up the great work on your UFO page. It is refreshing to see someone out there with a sober opinion on this topic.
Take care,
Brent

Like Brent , i would also like to hear more about your 1973 sighting. As we all know, there was a huge wave of sightings on the east coast and south during 1973.
Thanks for all the comments. I promise to write again about the 1973 sighting soon. I wrote about it last year sometime; and it will be featured in a new book coming out this fall - Silent Invasion - specifically about what happened in Pennsylvania in 1973-74 when an enormous amount of both UFO and Bigfoot sightings occurred.
TWO sightings? What luck! I'm happy for you( if even a little jealous).
I have seen one of these "green fireballs"...they are still occasionally seen in the area where I had my sighting. The area is part of the Navajo Nation near a town called Lukachuakai, Az. The one I saw landed near a butte and throbbed. It illuminated the entire valley. Apparently it landed near a hogan and we met the residence at a gas station. They came to use the phone to call BIA police...they were frightened. This occurred in the early 80's. If you see one of these fireballs it will leave you speechless.
Virginia UFO Sighting July 29 2010 11:00pm
I may have seen the same UFO you experienced.
My wife and I were walking our dog at 11:00 pm July 29 2010 when we looked into the North East sky and both saw what appeared to be a large Bright Blue stationary light. As we focused on the light it immediately took off in a downward direction. We could see the light briefly through the trees until it disappeared as it approached the ground. There was also a deep thundering roar that accompanied the light as it initially began to ascended.
Since the light was initially stationary rules out a Meteor or Fireball and makes this sighting that much more dificult to explain.

Any specific spot were you seen this green fire ball fall towards, I am having a little problem with world domination and require some green stuff to shove down Superman's trap!
Color of a Meteor
The visible light produced by a meteor may take on various hues, depending on the chemical composition of the meteoroid, and its speed through the atmosphere. As layers of the meteoroid are stripped off and ionized, the color of the light emitted may change according to the layering of minerals.
Some of the possible colors and the compounds responsible for them are:
orange/yellow (sodium);
yellow (iron);
blue/green (copper);
lilac (potassium);
and red (silicate).
A meteor is the visible streak of light that occurs when a meteoroid enters the Earth's atmosphere. Most meteoroids that cause meteors are about the size of a pebble. They become visible between about 40 and 75 miles above the earth. They disintegrate at altitudes of 30 to 60 miles. A relatively small percentage of meteoroids hit the Earth's atmosphere and then pass out again: these are termed Earth-grazing fireballs.
I've seen three in my life time. One with my wife, one with my grandson and one by my self. I reported mine to UFO Casebook, I wish I had filed with Mufon also. Firey Green, big and bright.
You want evidence? I got evidence. Just Google; 'about glass tunnels', sometime. Great for stock photo's! Visit anytime...
"Clear, sharp, & full color, 360 spherical imagery, all with U.F.O.S!"
This is a correction, to the comment below! It's called,
' aboutglasstunnels '. It's 1 WORD. Try this, for more success!
In 2005, we saw 3 big fireballs, 1 orange, 2 bright neon green like this one 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. The second one exploded and lit up entire sky, raining green embers--reported to NUFORC(dot)org on 12/21/2005. No sound from any of them, no trail which we found strange. No reports on police scanner either. At that time, we had never seen nor considered UFOs, so we just assumed the Earth was being unusually hit by a large number of rogue fireballs--perhaps containing copper to explain the color. Only reported it to UFO site because 3 LARGE fireballs in a short period of several months seemed too much of a coincidence.
