Indiana UFO 'jumps' from one cloud to the next

A Lafayette, IN, witness reports a star-like object moving between one cloud formation and another, as observed two blocks north of Jefferson High School and looking east, according to May 2, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving south on 18th Street on March 31, 2011, when the object was observed.

"No tail was observed," the witness stated. "The object's size at arm's length was between 1/16 and 1/8th of an inch in diameter. It traveled in a northeastern direction."

The witness considered the idea that the object was a meteor.

"I thought the object could be a meteor, but it did not travel at a steep angle nor did it have a tail or fade gradually. It was one of those experiences that cause you to catch your breath momentarily. Intuitively there was something different about the object."

Lafayette is the county seat of Tippecanoe County, 63 miles northwest of Indianapolis, population 67,140. No images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on May 2, 2011.

Indiana is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating,
with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Indiana had 11 UFO reports in April 2011 - while California had 46 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation. Indiana is listed as a "Watch State" this month.

IN, March 31, Observed white star-like object leave a cloud formation to the east and travel a distance in @ 3 sec. to another cloud formation. MUFON Case # 28902.

I was driving south on 18th Street in Lafayette about two blocks north of Jefferson High School. In a brief glance to the east I observed a white star-like object leave a cloud formation and travel for about 3 seconds to another cloud formation and disappear. No tail was observed. The object's size at arm's length was between 1/16 and 1/8th of an inch in diameter. It traveled in a northeastern direction. At the same time there was a single engine prop plane traveling south below the object in question. I estimate the angle observed above the horizon to be approximately 50 degrees.

I thought the object could be a meteor, but it did not travel at a steep angle nor did it have a tail or fade gradually. It was one of those experiences that cause you to catch your breath momentarily. Intuitively there was something different about the object.
