Pictures can be deceiving. And that turned out to be the case in Archer City, Texas, after photos from an infrared motion-activated camera produced unusual images on August 6, 2010, according to Fletcher Gray, Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Texas Chief Investigator and State Star Team Coordinator.
What appeared to be a disc-shaped or "Frisbee-like" object hovering over a hunting camp was actually something much simpler.
"The image is an artifact of the camera," Gray said. "The camera is picking up the flash from a window that the camera is setting in. I made that determination the day after I received the original photos."
Case solved, thanks to the excellent work from the Texas investigation team. The UFO Examiner originally covered this story on August 29, 2010, as Infrared camera captures UFO hovering nearly two hours.
The video below is coverage of the event by the Fort Worth, Texas, NBC station.

Wait a minute...I thought the original report said that it was a infrared camera that did NOT have a flash? And if this were the case, then why doesn't this anomaly or why hasn't this anomaly show up in EVERY photo that this camera takes at night?
Seems like a pretty simplistic determination without much info given.
Quote from original article:
"What we do know about the camera is that it operates using infrared, rather than a flash, and is motion-activated, like the majority of cameras of this type used for hunting and wildlife observing."
This photo is in infrared and would not have used a flash to take these pictures. So, why this explanation?
It probably only took photos when the deer triggered the camera and it doesn't say whether or not it shows up in all the photos, but if the camera was behind glass that throws another level of trying to determine what was being reflected off the camera or as someone else mentioned inside the camera into the shot.
It kind of makes me wonder about the other deer cam. ufo photos. Are most of these on infrared cameras and what is different about an infrared camera?
My husband has two IR cameras and we have 10 other hunters with IR cameras on our lease and not a single picture has ever been taken that looks like this. Instead of making a determination based on the photo's alone maybe you should inspect the camera before drawing a conclusion?? To me that just half-assed.
The report is not at all clear if the camera was used to actually duplicate the reflection effect, or if Fletcher Gray is just making an educated guess as to what probably caused the anomaly. There's a huge difference in these two scenarios. Also, are these photos from the one and only night that the anomaly has shown? Is this the first time the camera was mounted or used the way it was? There's a whole lot of information that's missing. It might be glass reflections, or it might be a space craft, but the evidence presented and explained sure doesn't help support any conclusions whatsoever. Mr. Gray, please explain your conclusion better!
i'm not buying this explanation: "The image is an artifact of the camera," Gray said. "The camera is picking up the flash from a window that the camera is setting in. I made that determination the day after I received the original photos."
virtually NOTHING else in the pictures move except the deer AND the row of lights. if the camera is mounted securely, how in the hell could these "artifacts of the camera" move around?
the witness/camera owner B-P said NO FLASH is used, it's all IR! c'mon Mr. Gray. read and comprehend before making lame assertions!
case NOT closed for me and i'm sure many others.........

I emailed Mr. Gray and he replied:
"Below is an I-40 and if you notice this camera has a bank of 14 infrared lights across and 5 lights high. The photo of the so called ufo had a count of 14 lights across. The camera was setting inside a game box for weather protection, mounted on a tripod. The case has a glass front on it. When the camera discharged it picked up the image of on the rows of 14 lights. That is why it appeared that the object or lights was moving up and down. I submitted this information to a expert on photo analysis and he agrees with me. "
I guess this makes sense. The camera owner doesn't understand that the LED Strobe = Flash. I still don't comprehend how they can shift about in the the picture frame if the camera is mounted securely. Perhaps this witness is just looking for attention. This "evidence" was VERY marginal at best anyway. On to much better things!

HAVE YOU NOTICED THEY ARE TRYING TO DEBUNK EVERYTHING IN ERNEST.THE BATTLE OF L.A.?,AFTER 60+ YEARS?THEY DO NOT REALIZE THE PUBLIC ISN'T BUYING IT ANYMORE.PEOPLE ARE SEEING WHAT THEY ARE SEEING.WE ARE NOT GOING TO FALL FOR IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!THERE ARE TOO MANY SIGHTINGS NOW,.NEW CAMERAS OUT THERE.,NEW TECHNOLOGIES .,SOMETHING BIG IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.
AND BY THE WAY-HAS ANYONE NOTICED WE HAVEN'T HAD ANY NEW CROP CIRCLES IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.SOMETHING IS UP.YOU MARK MY WORD!!!!!!!!
I have been trying to research similar photos online with no luck. I wish someone would give an example of similar photos for comparison. To me, that would prove this photo to be one of many misinterpreted UFO sightings. If there are no similar photos posted, I would tend to believe that there is something paranormal in this particular set of game camera photos. Where are the many photos of this internal camera reflection? If this is common, they must be out there somewhere?!?
The role of the debunker isn't to fool everyone, it's to fool enough people to create controversy. If you get enough "official" explanations like these, even if they are ridiculous, then the goal is accomplished.
Having said that, debunkers usually can come up with something better than this. I'm disappointed in Mr. Marsh. If this was his best effort, then he didn't ignore enough facts. This explanation clearly goes in the bin with "Swamp gas".
Got something to say?
