Peter Rowen, who as a child was photographed for U2’s legendary “Boy” and “War” albums, is alarmed about the devastation and potential extinction that is facing the wild horses of the United States.
He recently viewed the trailer for filmmaker and horse advocate James Kleinert’s documentary “Disappointment Valley”, which give an in-depth look at the disturbing and sad situation these beautiful creatures are currently enduring. In an official statement given to his promoter, Karen Mayfield, and displayed on the website, Wild Mustang Coalition, Rowen lets his thoughts on this issue be known.
“Wow… I just watched the trailer of James Kleinert’s ‘Disappointment Valley’,” he said, “I never really knew anything about what’s going on with America’s wild horses, and for sure what I think is happening to them is horrific… I’m for the preservation of these animals in the wild and to be left in their natural habitat in the west.”
Rowen isn’t the only famous face speaking out about this issue. Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Viggo Mortensen, and Daryl Hannah have joined the cause of making sure that the horses remain safe in their natural surroundings. The trailer is very bold and upsetting at the same time. It wakes you up and breaks your heart when you see these horses being herded together only to have them endure danger lurking around the corner. View it here and see why people are taking a stand.

Below is a video of U2’s classic “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses”. In their book “U2 by U2”, Adam says of the “Achtung Baby” song, “There’s something magical about it. It’s a great torch song with melody and emotion.” Video by ARTisRESISTANCEmLp

Thank you..!!! these horses are up against hard odds...and bad ideas and the end result..really rough people riding them out of dodge...please keep it up and make it a cool cause, for the folks that don't know what's going on...godspeed...
Thank you Peter, the whole world needs to know this, these horses need the help of people who really care, their freedom and wellbeing is at stake, it can't be all for the humans, animals have their rights too to live a decent life and it is taken away from them by unscrupulous people who just don't care. Wild horses should be a symbol of freedom for all.
Thanks to Peter for speaking out for our wild horses and burros. We need to spread the word so the American people know what is happening and stop it.
Thank you for speaking out for Wild Horses. Your support will truely help in our cause.
Thank You Peter for speaking out for Our Magnificent and Legendary Wild Mustang, their eternal beauty and Pride cannot ever be forsaken by America , they Built it !!!!!!!!!!!!!! America must fight for their very survival, they are terrified daily by the Very Agency Appointed to Protect them...........The BLM. Cowards must destroy what they cannot understand????The Mustangs Belong Free in no uncertain terms, their alligence to us since they arrived here have been unmistakeable .... They deserve Honor Not Terror ...............
Thank-you so much for speaking up for the wild horses & burros! Now if only the news reporters would bother to check the story out maybe more headway would be made. Bravo on you & your group! They can not say it but I will "Thank-you for caring!"
Wild horses advocates will continue to "take a stand" for the horses & burros.
We know the horror. And most definitely against the law. The 1971 Wild Free Roaming Horse & Burro Act. Severe animal abuse, cruelty, neglect...punishable as a felony! Blocking observers.
We will not stop. I thank you, Mr. Rowen, for your wonderful and sensitive article about the wild horses. Keep 'em coming!!
Thank you for speaking out for the native wild horses and burros. The plots to eradicate them have been going on for decades. The horses and burros have been subjected to immeasurable cruelty, physical and emotional pain. Foals ripped from mares, family units crushed, range wisdom POOF gone. The BLM, FS and other government agencies have been underhanded and felonious in their plots against the wild equids. Why? Is it because they are free and governments cannot stand to see any living being not crushed under their thumb or not making a profit? Peter, we need you & others to scream out for the equines, we are all they have left between their freedom and a government with too much blood on its hands. Continue to educate yourself and tell everyone everyday. Horses living in government pens for life costs millions every year, horses living free = $0.
THANK YOU for speaking out. This is an outrage that must be stopped. And everyone has to take action. God bless you for doing this and keep fighting. We are so many who are a 100% with you.
Peter, it's people like you & the rest of the Wild Horse Advocates that WILL make a difference. Thank you for speaking out for them.
thank you for speak for those who can not speak for themselves they need to be protected.
Thank you Peter for speaking up for the wild horses and burros!
Peter - please tell all your famous friends. The 'average' people are fighting really hard, but celebrities can draw more attention to the cause just because of their status. We are at war with the BLM and losing the battle. We need some 'elite troops' to boost morale and help us to see the finish line!
Thank you Peter for taking notice and speaking out about the tragedy surrounding the wild horses of North America today. Keep up the good fight!
Thank you, Peter, for taking notice of the plight of our wild horses and burros. I am grateful.
Peter, thank you for caring about what is happening to OUR wild horses!! Please help all of us who care about these magnificent animals, get the PROPER protection that they need and deserve!!
Thank you for see that and taking a stand. We need all the people we can get to help. If we dont do something they will be gone for good.
Peter,
Thank you so much for caring and wanting to help our Wild Mustangs and Burros. I'm so afraid that we are going to loose them forever. It just breaks my heart what they are going through at the hands that are supposed to be caring for them.
xoxo
Can't thank you enough for what you are doing for the wild horses. These horses are an American Icon, and should be left alone, to run free on the land that was allotted for them to do so. All the people need to know what is going on and thanks to you and many many more people involved, they are starting to hear about the horses and how wrong they are being treated.Thank you so very very much.
Thank you Peter! I appreciate you voicing your concern for an American issue. Our wild horses are in serious trouble. Your Photography is breathtaking, being an amateur Photographer I really admire your work.
Thank you Peter for everything you are doing to help the plight of these beautiful wild horses. I hope and pray that they will be left alone to live in peace in their natural surroundings.
Hi Peter,
thank you so much. We all know these horses need every voice to speak for them.
Thank you Peter, we need more celebrity voices to bring publicity to this cause while there is still time. There is a horse holocaust going on.
I heard Ginger Kathrens speak recently, (filmmaker of the "Cloud" series on PBS, following the life of a Mustang colt from birth to getting his own herd, to getting rounded up despite her attempt to halt it in court) and she says the BLM is selling Mustangs to slaughter in Mexico and Canada, that they actually have some kind of right to do this despite the Mustang and Burro Protection Act, which they are now free to violate, apparently.
Wild Horse Annie must be spinning in her grave. We must stop these incredible, irreplaceable horses from being lost forever! BLM really stands for Bureau of Livestock Management. Mostly they are being cleared for cattle grazing. Stop eating beef! Do whatever you can do to alert the public about this tragedy!
Our wild horses and burros are in danger of extinction by our own government. The BLM has plans to round up approximately 6000 horses this year. Our wild mustangs have lived in North American continent since before the ice age. Palenotologists have fossils proof that the horse evolved here in N. America and some migrated going across tHe Bering Land Bridge taking them into Russia and beyond. Our wild horses are not feral animals like the government and cattle ranchers want you to believe. We have the proof they are a reintroduced native species which should now be protected by the Endangered Species Act. Please help our wild herds live on for our future generations.
Thank you Peter for speaking out for our wild horses. Your photography is amazing. I admire your work.
Thank onbehalf of the wild mustangs..keep up the good work!
