At this year's New Yorker Festival in New York City, Twilight series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be participating in a discussion panel on the subject of "vampires in popular culture" with none other than Stephen King.
Stephen King has written vampire lore novels before, including Salem's Lot, and, of course, Melissa Rosenberg has written the screenplays for Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
So, in other words, they both have experience in the vampire pop culture field.
Of course, most Twilight fans are hard-pressed to forget Stephen King's words about Stephenie Meyer, so there is bound to be a bit of dismay over the coupling involved for this panel.
It should be interesting - understatement - to hear how the two approach the issue as it is inevitable that the Twilight series will come up during those discussions. One has to wonder whether Stephen King will be deferential to the Saga's success and popularity, or if he will dismiss the Saga altogether and focus on other works of vampire fiction.
In any case, the New Yorker Festival takes place from October 1-3rd, and more information about the event is available here.

I have not forgiven Steven King for what he said...I pray Melissa stands tall and strong against him - I DO NOT that will be a problem!!! Side note - I was very happy to see that Stephenie beat Steven King as top selling author!!! What goes around comes around...he should remember that!
The words of Stephen King about de work of Meyer (or Mayer, who cares anyway) are the best thing to happen. People who likes real vampires must know that! Can't wait to see this panel!!
I love Stephenie Meyer, I love the Twilight Saga, the Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, and especially the Host, it so beats Twilights ass.
But I've loved Stephen King since I was a kid, ever since I read and watched Pet Sematary for the first time.
They're both great, but Stephen King is way more amazing!!
I was sad to hear King's comments about Meyer. Not because I agree or disagree with them. I started reading King's works early in his career and enjoyed his work immensely. I watched his popularity and sales grow while the "intellectual" press took pot shots at him and called him a hack. Many of us older fans defended his work constantly. To hear that he took pot shots at another popular writer publicly was disappointing to me considering Kings early critical nonacceptance.
I just wish that a great writer like Stephen King can think back to how he felt when the great literary authorities bagged on his books when he was just starting out. I love his work, but how about giving credit where credit is due? I'm not saying he has to love the Saga. But at least give it its fair due for bringing the spotlight back to vampire lore and for bringing reading back into people's lives.
I like Twilight too, but Stephen King's comments were fair. The writing isn't very good. But he does say she storytells well, and she does—and that's why the stories are so popular.
