'Twilight Saga' nominations, awards, achievements, and recognitions galore

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been nominated in the 2011 Saturn Awards for "Best Fantasy Film," per Variety. Those films which Eclipse is nominated against in this category are surprisingly mostly those with Twilight stars in them as well: Alice In Wonderland (which has Michael Sheen - "Aro"); Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (Jamie Campbell Bower - "Caius"); Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (Anna Kendrick - "Jessica Stanley"), and two others.

Last year, New Moon was nominated for a Saturn Award, but the category then was "Best Horror Film." This is something of a conundrum because, if anything, Eclipse had more frightening moments in it than did New Moon. At any rate, this isn't the first time New Moon has been pegged in the horror genre. Last year, when Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner presented at the Academy Awards, snippets of the film were included in a horror montage for the event. Strange.

Moving on, Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, and a few castmembers have all be recognized in the 2011 Virgin Movie Awards, for better and for much worse. While some of the awards were positive and complimentary, others are not quite as friendly. In the interest of being objective, here is a complete list (don't kill the messenger!): Guy of the Year" - Robert Pattinson; "Most Wanted" - Breaking Dawn; "Most Overrated" - Eclipse; "Lamest Couple" - Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart; "Worst Actress" - Kristen Stewart. Muse was also a two-time winner in the Virgin Media Music Awards (for live act and best group).

Next up on the recognitions list is the Soundtracks DVD which was released in December. Per Home Media Magazine, "the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA, announced this month that the combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of Music Videos and Performances from The Twilight Saga Soundtracks Vol. 1 had reached RIAA-certified gold status." Apparently, it takes the sale of 500,000+ units to reach this level. More on this feature can be found at Amazon.com.

Finally, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been announced to have topped the indie charts for 2010, worldwide. According to The Wrap, Eclipse's $562.8 million worldwide intake (disputed figure, reportedly actually $698.3 million) placed it atop the IFTA (Independent Film & Television Alliance)'s Top 50 Independent Films of 2010. That's quite an accomplishment!

The Virgin Media Awards voting was rigged. Kristen Stewart was clearly leading in the Most want girl category with clear daylight between her and 2nd place Emma Watson. Others were practically non-existent. But, virtually in a couple of days Chloe Moretz had overtaken everybody. Just goes to show that somebody (dedicated anti-Twilight?!) sat and pressed the buttons repeatedly as none of the polls were controlled for repeat voting. Same goes for the other categories as well. The less attention given to these crappy awards the better.
