She's the recent recipient of the Dorothy Arzner Directors Award at the Women in Film Crystal Lucy Awards. She's been said to have "prove[n] that woman can muscle in on the blockbuster market too." She's been slated to direct films like Hamlet, If I Stay, The Girl with the Red Riding Hood, and Maximum Ride. Her name is Catherine Hardwicke, and she was the director of Twilight.

Her work on Twilight has, according to Reuters, gained her and the film a place in the Guiness Book of World Records for "Highest-Grossing Movie By A Female Director."

According to Reuters,

This world renowned and celebrated annual, Guinness World Records 2010, contains the most comprehensive collection of the greatest and most amazing accomplishments from this past decade and beyond. A "must-have" for both knowledge-seekers and aspiring record-breakers of all ages, Guinness World Records 2010 is available September 17th for the suggested retail price of $28.95. For more information about Guinness World Records 2010, to find out how you can participate in Guinness World Records Day 2009 or to vote for your favorite records, visit our website at: www.guinnessworldrecords.com.

Twilight's predecessor and companion in current fantasy cinema, the Harry Potter series, was also recognized in the 2010 edition of Guinness. Its main actors, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, were also placed into the edition for their films' earnings over the decade.

Radcliffe is the "Highest-Grossing Actor of the Decade", raking in an average of $558 million per film. Watson, on the other hand, earned the record for "Highest Average Box-Office Gross for an Actress." She has been in six movies that have grossed an average of $753.7 million each.

Pretty exciting, eh? Twilight makes history? Probably not surprising, necessarily, but certainly exciting.

Thanks Twilight Poison

Hardwicke had a tiny budget and little status. She picked the winning team of actors and musicians, managed to bring enough of the feel of the books to satisfy millions of 'twihards', and put out a movie that made $10 for every $1 invested. This is no small feat. She deserves huge credit, and a lot of respect.

Thank you heathermc for being respectful of Hardwicke and her work on the film. I loved the indy feel she brought to the film and almost every aspect of its production, from cinematography, to costumes, etc. Hardwicke put together a great team on all accounts and they made a truly enjoyable film. I am really looking forward to all of her upcoming projects, especially If I Stay. While reading IIS, all I could think about was how PERFECT Hardwicke is for that story. She was not what I wanted or expected for Twilight, but she and her team brought it to life in a way more pleasing (at least for me) than the novel. Congrats!

I love the movie, but I do not like her style. I don't really like any of her movies. She got lucky to do Twilight and someone with the same budget could have (and would have) done much better in my opinion.

    But that's just me.
