'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.
If you haven't seen The Twilight Saga: Eclipse yet, do be warned that this is a spoiler-ridden post and you may want to save it for later.
Alright, so we know that David Slade's revealed at least one deleted scene we should expect to see on an Eclipse DVD, but there are a few other moments that one might hope for on such a feature.
The one we know is coming is the Angela and Bella "jealousy" sequence - where the two discuss Edward's feelings about Bella's friendship with Jacob over graduation announcements.
So, putting that one aside, here are ten other moments one might hope to see:
1. "I felt hope": The Twilight Saga: Eclipse does a nice job of bringing in Jasper's backstory, for sure. And the chemistry between Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) and Alice (Ashley Greene) is very palatable in both the ending of that story and the fight training sequence. However, a significant quote that Jasper says about finding Alice in Eclipse the book didn't make the film cut . . . "I felt hope." It's certainly forgiveable - especially since we weren't shirked on the Jasper Whitlock Hale "ma'am"-ness - but it'd be nice to see a fuller account of the Jasper and Alice tale, especially the part where Edward describes their first visit to the Cullen household.
2. Quil and Claire: It's borderline creepy to some (perhaps outsiders particularly), sure, but it is necessary to make the Renesmee/Jacob dynamic in Breaking Dawn make any sense. In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, no mention is made of Quil and his two-year-old imprintee, and something about the situation needs to be elucidated to segue into what comes next in the imprinting world. Otherwise, it'd have to be squeezed into The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, and we'll be far too busy in Isle Esme for that.
3. "Close the window": One significant change that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse made to the story of Eclipse is to remove the kidnapping sequence. Yes, Edward's behavior in these moments is undesirable and it probably was better to shorten it to just the moment where Edward dismembers her car for the sake of film continuity. Still, one line that was removed from this moment was the one in which Edward tells Bella to shut her window if she doesn't want him to come in due to his behavior. This was important because it showed Edward's remorse but also illustrated Bella's understanding when she ends up opening it as wide as it could go. It'd be nice to see this on-screen - unlikely as it may be. Edward isn't all sunshine and roses in Eclipse, and we need to believe Bella when she says that she "know[s] who he is" to Jacob's "he isn't perfect" near the end.
4. Emmett face smash: A few days ago, we learned that at least one portion of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's battle sequence was pared down to appease the MPAA and maintain a PG-13 rating: an Emmett face smash that David Slade described as "the face kind of breaks off into pieces of crystal that shatter." That's something I'd like to see for sure . . . even if it meant buying an unrated DVD.
5. Jacob and Bella post-punch: The cut from Bella punching Jacob in the face and hurting her hand to the front yard of Charlie's house was rather quick in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. I rather enjoyed it in the book when Bella gets fierce with the smug Jacob and calls him a dog. Of course, in the film, Edward is a bit more frantic in his threats than he was in the book, so that eliminates the possibility for some of the best zingers in this portion of the story, but there still could've been more in between these two moments. If there was, it'd be good to see on DVD.
6. Alice and Bella: Bottom line: there just hasn't been enough Alice and Bella. Their scenes together are fleeting moments in the films, including Eclipse. As noted before, the kidnapping scene is gone from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and most of the time Alice is in a scene in these movies, it's as part of the Cullen brood and not as an individual with Bella. There's not been that discussion of fashion or wedding plans or vampire speed party preparation like we got to see in the books. Alice is probably one of the top five most loved characters in the Twilight Saga, and she deserves some personality screen time. I'd like to see some more Alice and Bella chatting it up like the best friends they are supposed to be.
7. "I kissed Jacob": The fact that Bella kisses Jacob in Eclipse is paramount. While The Twilight Saga: Eclipse does handle it nicely, the film could've stood to see more discussion of that moment (particularly the fact that it's a bit of a game between Edward and Jacob).
8. Bella and Jacob, old and gray: Leading off of point number seven, there should've also been a flashforward sequence between Bella and Jacob. In the book, when Bella kisses Jacob, she sees the possibility that he offers her. She can see the potential for children, grandchildren, and a normal, healthy future with Jacob flash before her very eyes, and it is particularly important in relation to the words Rosalie says about her own life's fate. My hope is that this was filmed and will be included in the DVD.
9. Bella meets Bree: This was another significant moment in the book that didn't get attention in the film. In the book, Bella meets Bree as a ravenous, screeching newborn who badly wants to bite her. It's a glimpse into what she might be able to expect in her own not-too-distant future. In the film, however, Bree is rather quiet and tame - in fact, she's unrestrained altogether. It'd be nice to see the ravenous version of Bree in the deleted scenes.
10. "Don't watch": One of the most interesting things about The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella was that it added a secondary layer of meaning to Edward's final words in the story - "Don't watch." In Eclipse, it seemed that Edward was speaking to Bella, but in Bree Tanner we learn that he's probably speaking to both Bella and Bree. Of course, in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the portion with Edward and Jane exchanging cryptic words (the meaning of which we also learned in Bree Tanner) was included, so it would've fit neatly into the story for "Don't watch" to make the script, but it didn't. Perhaps the scene will be extended for the DVD.

I was waiting for the 'Don't watch'. Kinda bummed it didn't show up. And I too was looking forward to Edward calling Jacob a dog. Eclipse was funnier as a book. I loved the humor. I am glad that I got to hear 'No, Emmett, I punched a werewolf in the face."
I was so hoping for some emotion after Bella makes her choice - the uncontrollable sobbing, etc - Instead, it went straight to the meadow. I felt kind of cheated on that.
I agree that I thought the movie was missing the emotion and despair Bella feels when she has to say goodbye to Jacob. She sobs so much she can't drive and she cries all night. I hope the DVD will reveal that they shot a longer scene but had to cut it down because I too felt cheated. Also, the book ended with Jacob running away as a wolf in reaction to the wedding invitation. It is a big deal when he comes back for the wedding in Breaking Dawn. How are they going to make sense of that when he didn't leave in Eclipse. Finally, I am hoping the 3 main actors do the commentary. I always find that to be the most interesting feature of any movie. I would like to hear their stories about shooting, especially the tent scene reshoot when supposedly Kristen Stewart was so sick she was vomitting between takes.
I totally agree. I wanted to see Bella driving home from telling Jacob goodbye and crying uncontrollably, then Edward finding her. So many real important parts of Eclipse and the raw emotion were left out!
I completely agree-before that point I felt no sympathy for Jacob at all, I was completely team Edward but then the whole part after she tells Jake her choice when she is uncontrollably crying made me feel for Jake and I actually cried too: And it showed how much Edward is there for her because he was there until she was done crying and kept asking if she was sure she had made the right choice. I felt that this needed to be in the movie.
I KNOW RITE ME TO. I WANTED TO SEE HER CRYING AND HAVING TO STOP AND LET EDWARD DRIVER HER HOME AND HIM BEING THERE WEN SHE WAS CRYING AND WEN SHE WAKES UP SHE FEELS BETTER ABOUT HER CHOICE..
Agree with Jennifer. That was the scene I missed most when I came out of the cinema... :(:(:(
Also when they discuss a quick wedding (just the two of them) and then Alices reaction when they let her to organize it...
I too wished there had have been the "flash forward" in the kiss with Jacob just to help those who didn't read the books to fully understand her feelings for Jacob. I felt kind-of cheated in the bedroom scene because it left out much of the dialogue between the two and her reasons for not wanting to marry him so quickly. I also think they could have explained the reason Bella cut herself in the battle scene. There, too, if you haven't read the books, you don't really understand what she thought her purpose was in that particular scene (or her frame of mind). Definitely not a movie to see in IMAX...too much action which caused the action scenes to be a total blur.
I agree, the bedroom scene is one of my favorite parts of the book and I really don't feel like the movie did it justice. It was to quick. And why does "Bella" never seem to cry in the movie?!? I mean she cries ALL the time in the books, I'm just saying.
it just came out in theatres and we are already talking about the dvd lol
The motorcycle return scene when Edward gives her the helmet & jacket. I wanted to hear the line: "there are things between my hands that I can't live without." The animosity between Edward & Jacob was put on fast forward, so it skipped through Edward holding in the pain, while dealing with acceptance. Also, there definitely needs to be more interaction with Alice & Bella. Especially the final scene when Bella gives in to the wedding. But before that the talk with Bella & Charlie where he asks her to tell him before she takes off because that is what leads to her giving in to Alice.
I wish there was more from the tent scene. When in the book Edward asks Jacob about the third wife story and he goes on to say he wished they had kept some things to themselves and how Bella relates to her. I think it would have added to the scene when she cuts herself which then adds to another scene of when the book Edward expects Bella to be afraid of him after just seeing him kill Victora and Bella is confused as to what he is talking about. They totally skipped that part and I would have liked to see that. Thats one that could possibly be an extended scene.
just got home. saw the movie in imax. the problem is, it is impossible to get everything from the books into the movies. i thought this movie did it best, very close to the book. but yes some favorite parts have to get left out. maybe because breaking dawn will be 2 movies, condon could do flashbacks to pick up missing storylines.all in all, loved it.
If I hadn't read the books numerous times the movie would have been good. Having read the books several times the movie made swiss cheese out of the book's story line. I felt like there was too much with the newborns as well as adding parts to the story that didn't exist, the t shirt quilt for example. Meanwhile leaving out or rushing through important scenes, the two Jacob scenes at school and Bella being carried were messed up. The first chase scene was beautiful, while the snow scene looked totally cheap. The tent scene was too short and the incidents leading up to the Jacob/Bella kiss were all wrong. I felt like important things were rushed through and we spent too much time with the newborns. I didn't like the new Victoria even though I went in with no predjudice. I liked the way a lot of the movie was shot, lots of close ups. Jacob really was more grown up and Edward didn't look so overly made up like New Moon. I feel like I need to see the movie again to see it more clearly.
kinda felt we lost a little with the stories. such as seeing jasper and alice meet, their first time mtg the cullens. the vera and her lil boy to roaslies story so we know why she picked emmett to save. peter and charlotte in jaspers story. the denali clan not helping the cullens. lil details but part of a large picture. quil and claire. the wolves mom sue. more alice.....
Just wanted to add another vote for the DVD having extended tent scenes. Side Note: I was glad they made Edward look good again. I'm happy some of you noticed that he didn't look that great in New Moon but now looks as beautiful as he did in Twilight.
I cant believe they left out the whole thing when edward says deals off in the meadow. The whole "I want you" should have been in there I would definatly like to see that whole seen
OMG!!! I completely agree!!! Idk, maybe they need to try a new screenwriter for the BD movies, someone who'll actually make sure all the best and most vital scenes make it into the movie. The Eclipse movie just left out/shortened waaaaaaaaaay to many things that needed to be included. Maybe they should've just made it into a 2.5 or 3 hr movie lol. I'd love for the DVD to be uncut/unedited, but I doubt that will be the case.
That would probably be my top ten.....really, no vampire kidnapping/slumber party?? No "fetch a space heater"? They really should have developed Alice and Bella's relationship...
I understand you have take hundreds of pages and turn it into a 90-minute movie, but darn-it, Stephanie Myers HANDS OVER some of the best scripting imaginable...they could have at least just used the lines in the book!
LOL!!! That was SO funny when Edward said that!! I was reading the book at work and when I got to that line I burst out laughing, the people around me were looking at me like I'd lost my mind. Let's just hope they put some of Jacob's jabs at Rose in the BD movie. Especially the part where he chucks his "doggie dish" at her TOO FUNNY!!!
They left out so much and I was just waiting for the words "Don't Watch". I feel like they left out a lot of important parts in the book but I am sooooo happy they still put, "Bella, Would you please stop trying to take your cloths off." I loved that in the book.
Felt like the whole movie was on fast forward. Couldn't believe it was over. Missed the slumber party, Alice's reaction to being allowed to do the wedding, Rosalie's part was a blur (the flash of her in her wedding dress was so fast you hardly saw it), Bella's heartbreak when she decides. Overall a great movie, just too fast, it felt choppy in places, like the story around the fire, it was really quick too. It would have been nice to slow it down a little. Felt like being in a race, which doesn't do the book justice at all. Hope there is an extended version with much more meat released with the DVD.
The part where Jacob runs away at the end of the book! I was a bit disappointed it wasn't at the end of the movie!! Maybe the'll add it at the beginning of Breaking Dawn?
Agreed! That was so heartbreaking, but it shows where jacob is at in this whole mess.
YES to number 8.
And I think they should have had a voiceover with Bella realizing that she was in love with Jacob all along, and that she loved him VERY MUCH. But it wasn't enough, it still killed her. They needed to show more of Bella's intense love for Jacob. Which is why it's incredibly disappointing some of their best quotes/lines were cut from their final scene - my personal favorite in the novel.
Ok, this was Taylor's movie, not New Moon! He was amazing and I felt his emotions. I agree that it was 'choppy'. It went too fast to each scene. With New Moon, Chris lead into each scene beautifully, the voice overs worked extremely well. With Eclipse we got more emotion. I wish we could have united both directors together for Eclipse. I just dont understand why some movies can be made that are 150 minutes and Twilight movies remain around a 120 limit. THIS IS A PHENOMENA AFTERALL! PLEASE give us a directors cut that's more detailed, even if you have to release an R rated version due to the fight scenes (sorry but they could have been more violent...i know hanging on to the pg13). Include the visions of a happy life with Jacob so we can tell that she was a little torn AND...the meadow scene at the end where Edward gives in to her. It was a good movie, but I feel it suffered trying to hold on to the pg13 rating. :)
Well, I kinda wished the short banter between Edward and Jacob before the inside tent tension had been there. Where Edward says to Jacob, go fetch a space heater, and Jacob quick-wittedly retaliates with, what do you think I am, a St. Bernard. Think that inclusion would have eased into the following tension inside the tent.
I agree to all of the above!! The movie while
hitting most keys points was on fast forward.
Plus I felt like it made Edward look bad and Jacob
look good. It left out so much of the conflict
just skipped over it as if it were easy to deal
with teaming up. I was very upset in the cliff
scene where Victoria and Riley had Edward
why did they have to make him look like he was
loosing they did the same thing in new moon.
There was never a point in that book where he
was loosing and Bella never cut herself she
just thought about it. But I guess in the end it's imposiable
ro fit it all in. They could have at least kept the
root of who they are.
I totally agree with your point that these movies make Edward look bad and show him losing and needing Bella's help in every conflict. He can read minds. I doubt Felix would have gotten the drop on him in NM and there is no way Riley and Victoria would have caught him in that hold. They should have shown the fight as scripted in the book where Seth and Edward work together to eliminate the threat of Riley and Victoria and Bella realize her sacrifice was not necessary. It was one of my favorite parts in the book and gave Seth a chance to boast to his Pack brothers. Bella is the hero of the fight in BD.
...one more statement. If the way it was written is considered rated R to the MPAA, then make an R rated movie. That's all I'm saying.
I completely agree!!
I missed the scene where she drives home after breaking up with Jacob and has to pull over because she is crying so hard and then Edward finds her and she cries the whole night... even if they couldn't put it all in, she could have at least shed one tear for him
I am a huge twi-hard and I love all the movies but eclipse seemed to be rushed through I mean it didn't feel like 2 whole hours it felt mre like one and they missed so many important details like angela and bella's talk about edward's jealousy and the kidnapping/sleepover and I think they should have put the part when bella asked edward about tanya and the denali and bella's angry voicemail would've been funny and awesome, bella's sobbing on edward's lap after kissing jacob bella giving into alice planning the wedding and the best part when alice shows bella her dress like OMG big mistake leaving that out tent scene should've been longer the sequence leading to bella and jake's kiss was cut big time and jake running in wolf form at the end of the movie.BTW they should've put both bedroom scenes in the movie and the one bedroom scene that was in there was supposed to be longer! Maybe eclipse should have been two movies but I still loved it.!!!!BTW I pray DB lives up to the boom!!!!!!!!
Book srry
I really love the line "Don't watch" to Bella & Bree but it didn't make in the film... and Quill & Claire scene is quite important for Breaking Dawn but it didn't make the final cut either. In the book, there're many sweet moment between Charlie & Alice too...
Other than the above ones, I wish to have "Ill be back so soon you wont have time to miss me. Look after my heart Ive left it with you" part, it's really sweet; the jealousy of Bella when she asks Edward about the Denali coven's "bunch of female"; and the urgency/passion when Edward kidnaps Bella for the second time in Eclipse (the propose one), they're on the way to his house and his room:p
But I really don't understand why Edward'd be defeated by Victoria & Riley in the fight...Edward's supposed to win in the "dance"...
There're just too many beautiful lines i want to be in the movie but didn't. Such as "I love you. I want you. Right now."
agreeee.
especially alice's parts. i think the film miss and cut some of alice's part that i really want to watch ashley's perform.
the film didnt show much love and alice and bella relationship.
more alice personal scene!
I am so mad that the "I felt hope." quote was not there!
i really wanted to see the small speech, about a paragraph long, that bella makes to jacob. its the one about how shes sorry for being selfish and trying to keep him around while it hurt him. it showed that bella did have some sense of understanding and remorse about how jacob felt. if they included it, it would probably be in an extended version of the kissing scene.
i want to see the part where edward tells jacob about the sam and emily thing(re:imprinting) during the tent scene and the conversation bella and edward had after she kissed jacob. the one showed in the movie was cut too short. it would be nice if people got to see why edward was so forgiving of what bella did (asking jacob to kiss her).
I understand a movie has to be a condensed version of the book and I was not disapointed it told the story. I have the audio books if want to listen to the books which I do often, to and from work traffic never bothers me. I agree the movie was too fast and choppy in places but Taylor really impressed me this time round everyone put their all into this film. All the quotes previously mentioned hopfully will be in the DVD until then I have my audio books.
yes I agree that Edward looked beautiful in Eclipse (apart from a few scenes where the makeup was a bit iffy). after reading ev1's thoughts it is exactly what i have been saying to ppl all day. I hate the way they made Edward looked to be the weak one at the end again....what is with that? and I feel they are making it too much about Jacob..more than they should be.
i enjoyed the movie, but it did feel really rushed, but each book is getting bigger and bigger, they should have made it more like 2 1/2 -3 hr movie just to fit in the other important scenes. but on saying that i love the twilight saga and was still so happy to see my 4 fave scenes from the book in there (no matter how short they were - Bella-Jacob kiss where she punches him, Tent Scene, the "Bella-Charlie" sex talk, and the last Bella-Jacob kiss. = )
Loved the movie!! A few parts that I would have liked to have seen- the "end" of the tent scene where Edward "wakes up" Jacob in the morning. Also, the slumber party scene, the vision Bella has about her wedding dress, and the very end with Jacob. He talks about not being able to compete with an Eclipse and a few days later runs away. Still, It was great!!
Per people in VanCity, they for a fact did film the part about Jacob and Bella's future, so the question stays at either that ended up on the cutting room floor or left for DVD. Great list Amanda! I do have to agree that the space heater banter and the talk between Bella/Edward after she kissed Jake was key points. As well as the Quinn imprint, but I have a feeling that will most def be in the first BD movie to lead up to Jakes imprinting in the 2nd BD. This movie could of stand to be 2.5 - 3 hours, easy.
I AGREE WITH THIS WHOLE LIST!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY MORE ALICE AND BELLA BFF TIME. BUT THE WHOLE LIST IN GENERAL, I LOVE THE MOVIES, BUT I LOOOOVE THE BOOKS. I REALLY HOPE BD ISN'T CHOPPED N SCREWED.
Lmao @Team Jacob, sooo true just make the movie rated R its not like they'd lose ne thig. I mean if that's what it'd take to stay more true to the books then by all means gofor it. Not just kids watch this movie I'm 20 n I looove it, my aunt is 30 sumthn and she is just as obsessed with the books and movies as me and my sis. I mean true I believe if they weren't trying to hold on to the pg13 rating the movie would b evn more awesome:)
I agree most with 4, 9 & 10. I'm glad they left out the Quil/Claire imprinting bs. If I were Slade I wouldn't have wanted to touch that. He does introduce imprinting which is enough for now. Don't forget that BD will be 2 films so they'll be plenty of time to introduce Quil/Claire in part one (if most of part one is the wedding & honeymoon I'd be tempted to skip it).
I remember seeing where the face smash would have been...it would have been awesome. Too bad they made him change it.
It wouldn't have been too difficult to add a few seconds of Bella analyzing Bree.
OMG I completely aqree with Team Jacob! & everybody else. I thouqht I was the only one who thouqht the movie was a bit chopped up & didn't feel like two hours at all. I was a little disappointed with the way David skipped a lot of the scenes that would've made Eclipse more of a whole but overall it was qreat. I was just a little mad at the fact that it didn't seem like Bella was that torn between Jacob & Edward....like she didn't cry on her way home from "the breakup" or anythinq. But their kiss @ the campsite was EPIC. I need to see this movie aqain to make sure I didn't miss anythinq!!
I completely agree with this list, Amanda! But what I really hoped to see in the movie is the part in the tent where Edward tells Jacob to 'to go fetch a space heater, or something'. LOL!!! That was funny in the book and I bet it would've been funnier in the movie. Also, I wanted to see the part at the end when Bree is in a fetal position on the ground screamin to get to Bella and when the Volturi comes, Edward asks Jane 'Would you please not do that?' when she tries to inflect pain on Bella. That would've been great!!
I wanted to see the tent scene where Bella wakes up and Jacob rolls on top of her and Edward shoves him off and its an intense almost fight scene...I totally agree with the whole Alice thing and they didnt talk about going to Vegas at all....in the book she did NOT leave with Jacob at the school at that scene she left with him when Edward was gone when Alice had kidnapped her. I dont think Bella could have left Edward standing there. I personally loved the movie just wished they wouldnt have skipped some things!
