Just a few moments ago, it was speculation on the table about what numbers would be announced for The Twilight Saga: New Moon's midnight ticket sales.
Now, it seems, it's official - The Twilight Saga: New Moon has surpassed The Dark Knight and Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince to take the win for highest midnight release ticket sales ever.
Previous estimates put New Moon as bringing in around $22.2 to $26 million. Even that set of touted figures was surpassed, it seems.
This release comes from Gossip Cop, who says that the information came directly from film studio Summit Entertainment.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON has set a new record for opening midnight shows with an estimated gross of $26.270 million playing at 3,514 theaters for a per theater average of $7,476. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON passes HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE ($22.2 million) to take the number one spot.* Following POTTER is DARK KNIGHT ($18.5 million).
In addition to THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, last night Summit re-issued TWILIGHT in theaters. The film grossed $1.3 million playing at 2,057 theaters for a per theater average of $631. The re-issue of Twilight came in just outside the top 15 for the week this is notable especially considering that all came from just 9 PM Thursday night shows.

I think it will most definitely break some records for the first weekend. I saw it at midnight, and I will definitely be going at least once more this weekend. The movie was fantastic, Chris Weitz did an amazing job. This movie met and exceeded all of my expectations. I couldn't be happier! Christ Weitz for Breaking Dawn!
Of course it will!! It's all part of the magic of the Twilight Saga...New Moon was incredible!! Will see it several more times before going out and buying the dvd. I am still coming down from the rush of seeing the movie at 3:00 am!!! LOL AWESOME!!!
I agree with Danielle. I saw the Midnight showing with the girls and going back Saturday with husband to see it again. The theater was crazy packed out too!
I saw it last night at midnight as well as the twilight showing it was sooo much fun. Chris did a SUPER job. It was much closer to the book than I expected and the actors were great as usual. Taylor really came through in this movie as Jacob. It was funny, sad and exciting. I was really glad to see the humor because STephenie puts that in her books and to have it come through in the movie makes it even better. I will see it several more times too.
A chick flick beat out Dark Knight & Harry Potter? F.U.C.K...
I just saw the movie at the Regal Cinemas in Times Square and ALL the show times, which were almost every hour, were sold out! amazing!
I was so upset that I didn't know the theater I had purchased tickets from months before it was announced some theaters were going to show Twilight prior to the New Moon movie was one of the theaters doing it. Even more upset that had I known they were actually going to allow people to keep their seats from Twilight showing for New Moon. Oh well. Awesome movie either way!
Can't beat Modern Warfare 2!
