This weekend was a good one for Twilight film studio Summit Entertainment. For starters, The Twilight Saga: New Moon opened with a record-smashing midnight ticket intake ($26.27 million), adding to what would become the biggest opening day ever ($72.7 million).
Now, it has been announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon is estimated to have brought in $140.7 million in the first three days of release across the U.S. and Canada, according to Reuters.
While New Moon might've beaten out The Dark Knight (and everything else for that matter) in opening day and midnight ticket sales, it did not take the total opening weekend honor. The Dark Knight still rests comfortably at $158 million, with Spiderman 3 just below at $151 million. The Twilight Saga: New Moon did surpass Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest who boasted $136 million.
Reuters' statistics on exit polls suggest that females account for 80% of ticketbuyers for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. That, of course, lends credence to the discussion about New Moon's success impacting the Hollywood perception of female audiences.
According to Larry Richman at Pro Networks, "Sources expect New Moon to eventually pass $500M worldwide."

Congrats to US!!! We are women hear us roar! and sparkle and growl :) I was the VERY first person in line for the midnight showing at the Long Beach Town Center, Long Beach, CA! Held spots for 20 other TwiHard Moms and friend! It was an awesome evening and LOVE LOVE the movie! Even got to see Bella sparkle
Hey blondevampmom--I'm glad you and your friends enjoyed the movie, but I'm curious what you think about its low reviews. I'm only asking this because you seem to take pride in contributing to its box office haul. If this is a statement by women (roaring) what kind of statement are you making by shelling out so much money to see this movie?
Confused: think back to the movie "The Hangover" that came out over the summer. It did so well. It was about men in their thirties going to Vegas for a bachelor party and losing their friend and the subsequent shenanigans looking for him. Why was that appealing? Men living vicariously through these characters. A man standing up to his b*tchy girlfriend, sexy guy acting like a ladies' man, but happily married, and the weirdo friend lacing their drinks. It appealed because men wanted to act like they had friends like that in real life. People read, watch, and love Twilight for the same reasons. Who doesn't want to live forever? Who doesn't want two men fighting for your affections? .
Confused: New Moon was MADE for Twilight fans and noone else. You can tell from how the movie this time rarely deviates from the book. It's going to get low reviews mainly because people act like the Twilight universe is lame because of whatever preconcieved notions they have about it. People think we are women who have no lives or whatever, and that is not the case at all. I love Twilight because it's romantic and there is drama and suspense and chivalry. I really recommend that before anyone views Twilight or New Moon that they read the books first. All four of them. It will really make you understand why the fans of the books are si faithful to this universe. I doubt anyone who gave the movie low reviews read any of the books. I can almost gurantee it.
Can't Beat Modern Warfare 2!!!
I have read all the books and I agree with Summer. All of us who have read the book are fans. Who can read the books and not be hooked on the saga???!!!! Stephanie Meyer did a great job making her dream come to life.
Yes, I acknowledge the low reviews; yes, I understand that a lot critics are calling this a morbidly awkward and melodramatic movie; and yes, I would shell out my money to see a movie that was created to bring to life a book series that I and many others love. The reviewers need to know that this movie, which they call awkward and melodramatic, reflects a melodramatic book...so what's the problem? Besides, the ratio of critics to fans is pathetic.
The reviews on IMDb are completely sickening. Some are claiming that they are fans. Some people preferred Twilight over New Moon. A friend of mine took her family and nieces to see the movie for Thanksgiving. Her sister who hasn't read the books and never will liked Twilight better and we figured out why. Twilight was a VERY simple story. Obsession, love, danger, rescue, done. It was a very open/close movie. In New Moon it becomes more complicated. You go through the fans taking sides of the triangle, Bella's grief, Jacob's frustration. The saving of Edward... reuniting, the Voltori. Most people that didn't read the books didn't know that New Moon was a bridge. It's the book that was setting up the stage for everything. That's why there was not a solid ending. They felt they were left unfairly. I think they did a fantastic job for New Moon. The conversations were word for word. The scenes perfected. The ONLY thing I think they really messed up is rushing the last 20 mins of the movie.
Got something to say?
