Just about every movie in existence has a continuity error here or a visible filming equipment blunder there. It's common and practically unavoidable, and to most, it's really not a big deal. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - great as it was - is no exception.
Moviemistakes.com users have begun critiquing some of the goofs that exist in the film, and it seems that there are quite a few noticeable blunders in Eclipse . . . though none will quite live up to Gil Birmingham (who portrayed the wheelchair-bound "Billy Black") driving the truck or the very visible make-up lines in Twilight.
Including those noticed by the site as well as my own observations, here are some of the most interesting slip-ups caught in Eclipse so far (which, if nothing else, will give you something to look for the next time you see it again).
"Aro"/"Arrow": Remember the "Volturi Featurette"? If not, here it is. Upon watching it, you'll notice that "Felix" (portrayed in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse by Daniel Cudmore) says "Aro" with the pronunciation "Ah-ro" in this video. In the film, however, it's pronounced as "arrow." When I asked Daniel Cudmore about this mix-up at the Eclipse premiere (see here for the video), he chalked it up to "difference of opinions in directors . . . each director wants it a different way."
"Jasper Hale" at lunch, graduation: First of all, "Jasper" was no longer in school in the events of Eclipse (the book). He, "Rosalie," and "Emmett" had all graduated by this point. The fact that he was a part of lunchroom events in the film has been received by some commentators to one post as a continuity effort: since he was on the biology field trip with the group in Twilight, he'd been grouped with those characters in age and bringing him back with the same group in New Moon and Eclipse made sense in that regard. Also, there are probably a good list of reasons why "Jasper Hale" (Jackson Rathbone) and "Alice Cullen" (Ashley Greene) were seated next to each other at the Forks High School graduation ceremony in Eclipse (i.e., this offers a flash at their romantic bond, makes the number of shots needed in this scene lesser) but this is a mistake as well since their last names are quite spread apart, alphabetically.
"Edward's" earlobe, skin: In most of the meadow sequences, there is a lot of lip-locking between "Bella" (Kristen Stewart) and "Edward" (Robert Pattinson). This is no blunder, to be sure, but there are at least two flaws which can be found in these moments, and they involve an earlobe and some sparkle-less skin. In one moment, "Bella" reaches over and places her hand on "Edward's" face. In doing so, she brushes by his earlobe and it moves (folds in a little bit). In the Twilight series' mythology, the vampires' hair is about the only involuntarily mobile thing, but vampires like "Edward" can choose to move around. In other words, the only way that any part of their body can be moved - particularly by a human character - is if they move it themselves. An earlobe, at least not usually, isn't the type of appendage that people (or, presumably, vampires) cannot move from internal force, so the fact that she brushed it and it folded in means there was a slight oversight (or that the kiss was too steamy to edit it out!). Also, as pointed out by users on MovieMistakes, there is a point in the final meadow sequence when the sun is clearly out but "Edward" is not sparkling.
"Hungryward": In the first scene featuring "Jacob Black" (Taylor Lautner), "Bella" and "Edward" drive into the school's parking lot, and he speaks to her about not getting out of the car. At this time, his eyes are golden. Later in the day, after "Bella" takes off to go on a ride with "Jacob" to La Push, he comes to her house and has furiously black eyes. Some, in discussions, have argued that this was a bit of homage to his sudden, furious worry over her leaving, but when it is discovered that an intruder ("Riley," Xavier Samuel) has been in the home, they return to the "Cullen" house to discuss it with his family . . . and all of their eyes are just as black, revealed to be a result of their hunger. This sudden transition would mean that "Edward" had not been starving until that day, which is unlikely given the status of his family and the way that Twilight lore indicates hunger's effect on the color of their eyes to be gradual.
Cuts, bitemarks, and dismembered heads: There are a couple of continuity errors associated with the location or placement of things in the film, of course, but these are a little more interesting than most. First of all, the bite that "James" inflicted on "Bella" hasn't been in the same place throughout the entire Saga, so it's probably no surprise that in Eclipse, the bite isn't where it was made in the first film. Additionally, the cut that she inflicts upon herself at the end of the film was on her middle arm, but "Edward" reportedly goes to bandage it up near the wrist. Finally, one MovieMistakes contributor points out that "Victoria's" head, when lying on the ground, has its eyes open at one point and closed in another shot.
Purple fire: No "purple-black smoke" was used in the film, though the book states that this is what is produced upon burning the newborn vampires from the army. The same was true in Twilight with the destruction of "James."
There are probably more (hair movements, clothing changes, visible equipment shots), but these are among the most interesting quirks about The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Do you have any to add from your own viewing(s)? Comment below with those which you've noticed!

It really bugs me when Riley bites Victoria's lip. That's a movement of the skin that shouldn't be possible for a vampire.
As for the pronunciation of Aro's name, I leaned over during the midnight show and said, "What happened to Felix's accent?"
Victoria's eyes being open when her head is ripped off then closed when they show it again also bothered me, as well as the fact that Edward left it so close to her body while waiting to set her on fire.
The fact that Bella cut herself at all during the fight scene is a major issue for me. That certainly didn't happen in the book and Edward would have reacted very differently than simply walking over and wordlessly bandaging it. And of course, he would have bandaged it in the correct place.
vampire to vampire is different .. as proven when Bella is changed and find's Edward "warm"
Bella did cut herself in the book during Edward's fight with Victoria. She stabs herself to get Victoria's attention using a piece of rock.
She did cut herself in the book -- with a rock just like it 's portrayed in the movie. That scene is actually true to form. It might not have been as dramatic in the book, but it certainly happened.
The Bella cutting herself thing did happen in the book, she was "copying" the 3rd wife from the Quileute story that distracted a vampire by doing so and giving the upper hand to her husband in a fight. She does that in order to "distract" Victoria, although in the book Edward was never trapped like he was in the film.
No, she doesn't cut herself in the book. She just holds the rock up like she is going to cut herself, then Edward sees her and goes over and attacks Riley. Then she just stands there in shock holding the rock.
It bothered me that she cut herself too. And they made Edward so wimpy! In the book he really has no problem kicking Victorias but!
the part where Bella cuts herself, is the part where the film shows the true Damsel in distress, that being weak doesn't always have to be vulnerable...tha's the true character of Bella Swan. And I like the way the film twisted that part..
I think Edward and Bella are also sitting next to each other during the graduation also...
Twilight based vamp / werewolf game. http://www.forsakenclans.com/index.php?REF=9529 (Go team JACOB)!!!
When Edward and Bella get out of the car during fight training, he grabs her wrist with his thumb pointing away from him yet when he looks down at the 'graduation present' from Jacob he's holding her wrist with his thumb facing towards him.
Thew movies sucks! I honestly didn't notice much of the flaws that have been discussed here as I was so angry while watching it. They literally killed the story.
yet you choose to read articles about it?
thank you, you are so right bout that!!!
their eyes turn black as a sign of anger too so it would make sence for edwards eyes to be black when he came back to get bella but rosalie doesnt like bella so hers would probably still be golden and the others might have darkened because they were woried for bella but not all the way to black
Also just a heads up Billy driving in twilight isn't a mistake, I'm in a chair and I drive. Just food for thought
yeah there are alot of vehicles that have extras added to them
Yeah that maybe true but in twilight the book Billy sold his truck to Charlie b/c he couldn't drive it anymore b/c he was in the wheelchair
There eyes don't turn black because there anger they turn black because there thirsty for blood
Biggest errors I noticed: 1. the date on the newspaper Charlie's reading early in the film: Saturday, June 4, 2010. June 4 was a Thursday. 2. a few scenes later, Jacob is furious that Bella's going to be turned at graduation, "in a month". If June 4 had been a few days before that, graduation a month later would be in July. High school graduations are almost always in mid-June, not early or mid-July.
also, the date is 6/4/10, yet riley's "missing" flyer says he was last seen in (i think) May 2010. he was supposed to be missing for over a year.
Also, the paper clearly has a headline about the US Open (tennis), which takes place in September.
u are also wrong June 4th was a FRIDAY.
picky much......all movies have flaws.....no movie is the same as the the book, enjoy it for what it is .....
Here, Here!! I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why, why why must everything be dissected like this? I loved Twilight, loved New Moon more, and Eclipse was the best of all. The movies are never exactly the same as the books, because it isn't possible to use very little detail in a two hour movie, and some things are changed to make the plotlines more smooth. As for Billy driving the truck, wheelchair bound people have been driving for a very long time. There are hand controlled brakes, etc. made specially for this. Geez, I truly hate people who have nothing better to do than nitpick!
are you nitpicking?
I agree! I thought this was a VERY good effort and, self-righteous nitpickers - seriously - have you nothing better to do??
Yes, people in wheelchairs can drive, but in the book he can't. He was borrowing cars from other pple, and most pple don't have hand controlled brakes etc. They sold the truck to bella because billy couldn't drive anymore. They don't have much money, so I would guess they couldn't afford to add the controls he would need....
There are so many things wrong with these movies. When I saw the midnigh show of Eclipse I left irritated. They killed the book. Killed it. There are so many things that don't match the book it makes me crazy. I couls write pages and pages about it. Look at how they killed the end of the book. Bella didn't just stay with Jacob when he was hurt for just a minute and then sashay on over to the meadow. Totally wrong and irritating. Leaves the non book reading audience with the wrong idea.
Maybe because this is the first one [movie] where I actually read the book before seeing the movie. So I was super excited and then super annoyed after all of the excitement of the premier. The actors did a great job, so it must be that screenwritter that kills the books we love.
Wow! I totally agree about the screen writer! Many vital things have been left out of all the movies, and who says they have to be 2 hours long. These were long novels and I think they could have been done just like Titanic and King King, I would have been happy to sit through any length just to get the story right!
I agree. When jacob got hurt was a very emotional scene and it took all of 15 seconds for them to move on. Nice.
Yes, I made that mistake (reading the book before I see the movie) with Twilight; for New Moon, I was smart and read it afterwards, so I could appreciate what they did put.
Eclipse wasn't my favorite book, but it was definitely my favorite movie! As for Melissa Rosenberg...I dunno, something about her script writing had always turned me off. Like in Twilight, it was uber-cheesy. -shrugs- Idk, but Eclipse was awesome!
Melissa has done a few butcher jobs in this series. I loved the movie, in the end its the same.. they are engaged, the bad vamps are gone etc.. but seriously, edward never would have let bella ride off from school on jakes bike.. and he would have asked permission to add a charm to her graduation present rather than just grabbing her wrist and attaching it... but the movie was awesome. I hope Breaking Dawn does not feel as "rushed" as this did.
I'm sorry but I totally disagree. I have read the books more than once and I am far from my teens so maybe that is my excuse but I have loved every one of these movies as much as the book. I realize that these movies are based on the books, not the books themselves. It would be too long and difficult to put every detail that each fan thinks relevant into a movie. Most movies based on books take the most important key points from the books for their movie. Enjoy the books for the books and the movies for the movies. I think that a good job has been done to try to touch the key points in the book while making an enjoyable movie. Also just because the movie goes from Bella with injured Jacob to Edward doesn't mean she ran out the door to the meadow. It is just transitioning from one scene to another. Just my thoughts.
yes i would love to sit through a longer movie, just so they would get everything right and everything we wanted in the movie, look at gone with the wind that is a long movie
I totally agree with you. I watch both of the first two films and then read all the books. I kind of understood why the first movie was off because I don't think they were planning to make the second book a movie at the time they filmed Twilight. But New Moon was really lacking and Eclipse was really messed up. It felt more like a two hour trailer rather than a movie about the book. I have also been reading a lot about smashing the movies into only two hours so they can show them more often during a 24 hour period of time to make more money. I really don't know if I will even go to the theatre to watch the last two movies becasue if they arn't at least 3 hours long each I don't see how they can even come close to being about the books at all.
i agree there were so many thing wrong with the movie. 1 bella did not ride off with jacob on the bike when he came to the school. she would not do that to edward. 2 in the books edward is always played up to be strong, fast, brave, but in the movies new moon he gets beat up by felix and in eclipse victoria and riley get the upper hand on him to. i thought it made him look weak, i didnt like that. 3 bella didnt cut herself. she does start to she is ready to do it but edward see her and pushes victoria away hard, so he can turn and help seth with riley.
they missed so many opportuned that would have been so wonderful to see. 4 i didnt like the way the movie did the giving of the heart from edward. they could have put in a great scene with edward say the words he said in the book. it would have been so touching. 5 or any of the scene with bella and alice were she kidnippes her, or when she is up set that she sees bella not inviting her to the wedding, and then begs her to let her do it for her. i think it would have been fun to she her jumping up and down saying please please. or when bella come over and tell her she can do her wedding with a few restricttions, i know they wouldnt want to show us the dress until the next movie but they could have had alice holding it up but not show it to us, plus that is when bella asks her to be her maid of houor. i dont think they have showed hardly anything about how close bella and alice are. 6 i felt like the movie was way to fast any true twilight fan would not mind sitting though a longer movie if it means that they put more of the things we want to see from the book in them. dont get me wrong i like the movie alot but i love the books. i just think their are alot of missed opportuned they could have done so much more.
7 in the books they say the only thing that can cut though vampire skin is vampire teeth, that is the way that they get renessme out of bella. but in the movie they are able to rip their head off and arms and their is even one were emmett hits another vampire with his head and it breaks while emmetts head has cracks then heal up. if you are going to take that route then wouldnt emmetts head break just as much? 8 i know that they talked alittle about inprinting but they didnt say anything about quil inprinting on a 2 year old to kind of get you ready for jacob and renessme. 8 and i agree that adding the stuff that is going on in settle does give the movie more action but i dont think anyone would have cared if they had lefted that out and added more of the book. i could pick on a few more things but i will stop there. i do like the movies but i love the books.
You really hit the nail on the head. So much lost opportunity. And I do agree a true fan of the books would have loved to have a much longer movie to see without all the action extras. After all Stephenie's books are not about action you can see that in Breaking Dawn, there was no fight at the end it all came down to truth. Her books are all about love, honesty and trust. You see that throughout the books. Bella trusting Edward, Jacob trusting Bella and then trusting Edward. Charlie trusting Bella and on and on. I hope not that Stephenie is a producer on the last two movies she puts her foot down and starts trusting the fans and I mean the real fans for her books that have always trusted in her words, the words that got us all into the movies in the first place. These are the first books that I have read in too many years and I am so disapointed that they decided to take the movies in the direction of profite rather than true entertainment and something for us all to really enjoy as we did the books.
Agree with the lot of you....POINT BLANK: Eclipse's editing sucked bad. Love the books BUT in the movies BELLA is stronger and EDWARD is weak....Movie BELLA isn't as lovestruck (which sucks) and Movie EDWARD isn't as controlling/stern - for lack of a better term (which I love because it adds to his strength and wisdom, I think) SO many missed opps and blunders. What happened to retrieving Riley's body parts to add to the fire?
* MR said she had Bella actually cut herself in the movie because she likes to "take things to another level
Umm...How 'bout those "mountains" in Galveston in Jasper's flashback? SE Texas is FLAT, people!
ummmmm there are mountains in texas, have you ever heard of google, you can find most anything on there. even mountains in texas
Ecilpse was my favorite book of the three. I really wished the directed didn't get rid of so many scenes. I was waiting for Jacob to come into the tent saying, "Here's your heater" like in the book, but he didn't. I hope dividing Breaking Dawn into two movies will allow the director to include more scenes from the book.
The biggest issue for me was the burning of vamps after fight scene. 1) Seth was instructed by Edward to be sure to gather ALL the pieces...Riley should have burned with Victoria. Very poetic justice, I think and it was in the book!!! What maybe an extra minute of scene? And I ask, why the absence of purple smoke? I was really looking for that.
Some people have way too much time on their hands.
I think they should do eclipse again but much better cause the first time I watched it it felt too short, and if they couldn't fit everything into it they should of done it as two films like breaking dawn will be.
(Plus that's wat they did with lord of the rings dvd they made each film in two parts)
that would be so sweet and make the dvd collection movies a little longer
When I saw Eclipse the first time, I commented to my friend on both the Jasper thing and the Aro thing immediately... The Aro thing isn't that big of a deal. We probably all pronounced it different ways in our head before seeing the movies and getting the "correct" pronunciation. The Jasper thing, on the other hand, isn't a key factor in the movies, but how hard is it to not have him in school? Really?
Is a movies for crying out loud, just enjoy it. Otherwise just don't watch movies if you are gonna be so picky about everythig. The movies cannot be like the books so just roll with it.
Yes it is a movie, but there are ways even with limited time to stick as close to the book as possible. In all the moives so far they strayed from the books. Lets just talk about Eclipse, the first 15 mins was not in the book at all. In reading the book we all figured out what happened in Seattle
Yes it is a movie, but there are ways even with limited time to stick as close to the book as possible. In all the moives so far they strayed from the books. Lets just talk about Eclipse, the first 15 mins was not in the book at all. In reading the book we all figured out what happened in Seattle but the written work was not there. 15 mins for more words from the book. We never read anything about Volturi, but we knew they were out there somewere. Another 10mins or so that more words from the book could have been in the movie. Sorry to say we didn't even see the fight in the words of the book or Jacob until after the fight and back in his house where Bella could have spent more time as she did in the book with him. All in all 30 mins or so could have been true to the book if they had not added things never written. Also the movie could have been 30 mins longer even one hour longer and they would still have made as much money as they have already. I read an artical, it one of the actors that played one of the Volturi and in this artical he stated that there is a 3 hour version of New Moon and it is no where to be found on DVD. I already have a copy of the DVD New Moon and I would pay again to have a longer virsion, and I would rebuy Twilight in a longer version and I just hope that all true Twilight book lovers would ask the same as I do, offer a fuller version for me to enjoy.
