The Twilight Lexicon has been on the case when it comes to any and everything related to the TwiTour series, and this weekend in Phoenix is no exception.
In the latest series of Tweets related to TwiTour, the Lexicon has taken note of some very interesting pieces of information provided by the one and only Catherine Hardwicke.
Of that information, you may find this to be a very tasty morsel.
Catherine Hardwicke said that the 4 finalists (who she called bachelor 1, 2, 3, 4) for the part of Edward Cullen were [Robert Pattinson,] Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes, and Shiloh Fernandez. She said to watch for Shiloh because she predicts that he’s going places.

Of course, Rathbone made it to the cast list anyhow as Jasper Hale - a part extremely befitting for the talented and worldly actor - but the others weren't. Also, for some, it's difficult to imagine anyone other than Pattinson in the role.
Hardwicke stated, according to the Lexicon's twittering, that she won't be on-board for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, but she agreed that the change of directors can be a positive thing. She noted that the Harry Potter series has been successful with directorial shifts, as we discussed here.

They better not change the character for edward. He is perfect for it, and if they change him, they will loose so many fans and money!!!!!!!! He is perfect for the role!

i mean some fans only watch it for him.. & its gona change every thought they have had about twilight if they change rob, he is perfect for the role & they shouldn't change him, i swear down i will seriously hate whatever director changes rob.
Kayla, did you even read the article?? These 4 actors were the top contenders back when casting was being done for Twilight. They aren't recasting. CH was just giving tidbits of info from her days on the project. Glad she's not directing any more of them.

well i'm glad they aren't replacing Rob, i think he suits Edward and he's a great actor and he always says he's commited to seeing the series done for the fans. but if Rob hadn't auditioned and Jackson had gotten the part for Jasper and it was down between Ben and Shiloh, Shiloh would've been my pick. Especially in picture #7. but i think Rob is a great Edward and can't wait to see what he will do with the role in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn

did you even read the article, they aren't replacing him. Catherine just said who were the top 4 picks for Edward when they were auditioning almost 2 years ago. They aren't replacing Rob and i doubt they ever will, and if they do Summit will have millions of girls burning down there studios.... well something like that'll happen

Rob is perfect as Edward of course. But I think Ben Barnes comes a close second for me :)
I hate it when they say that the Haryr Potter series is constantly changing directors. The first two were the same director (Chris Columbus), the next two had different directors, but the last FOUR will all be directed by David Yates! Yeah, that's a lot of directorial shifts...get real. I thought Catherine did a great job with Twilight and I would support her if she was going to do Breaking Dawn. But she should give a real reason for not doing so.
Don't know why anyone would misinterpret what she said. Duh! Those were the 4 finalists. I was always curious why they were. Hmm So Jackson was one of the guys Kristen had to "make out with" for the audition. Interesting little tidbit. Of those 4, sad to say, Jackson is the least Edward-esque. So glad Kristen chose Rob. ;o)
definitely not :p maybe its because im used to rob but i dont think any of them actually fits.. maybe just one pic of Shiloh Fernandez could look a bit alike, but not the rest :o
do dirctional shifts or whatever but dont do cast shift...just kick this idea out of ur minds...or every twilight fan will never b breakin dawn fan...espclly rob fans...huge loss will b created by replacement idea tht to for main hero..u can see a sample frm replacement in victoria's cast...so just kick of this replacement....
I can't imagine anyone else except Robert Pattinson for Edward. He brings great depth, and a a sense regalness(without arrogance) to the character. His expressions really show his internal struggle and conflict. Anyways, really glad Robert was cast as Edward.
Shiloh Fernandez I saw on Gossip Girl, not too impressed,and didn't find him suitable to play a character like Edward.
Rob was perfect as Edward Cullen in "Twilight", he absolutely nailed the role. Brilliant casting choice, but I think once Catherine saw Rob and Kristen together, it should have been an easy one.
FYI...Picture 5 of 10 is not Ben Barnes. That's Charlie Cox. Ben Barnes played Tristan's (played by Charlie Cox) Dad when he was younger.
I couldn't see any of those actors as Edward. I do think this was a great casting choice. Rathbone is also very good at playing Jasper.

If they change Edwards character that would throw everyone off...I don't think anyone could play Edwards character better then Rob Pattinson
I love Rob, but I'm more attracted to Ben Barnes, especially after watching Narnia and Stardust. But I think Rob is perfect for the role of Edward because he can be both dark and charming, and his looks can kill. Ben Barnes' handsome face is sweet, someone you can bring home to meet your parents and feel safe.
Briefly reading through looks like I'm the odd girl out. I think Shiloh Fernandez would have done a good job, but no one could play Edward like Rob did. If you watch his other movies... he has the ability to express emotion so well with his body... not just his eyes or face, but everything. As far as acting goes Jackson Rathbone would have done a fantastic job, but I think he plays Jasper better than he would have Edward. He just looks more like Jasper to me than Edward... but I will admit... the first time I saw Rob as Edward... a part of me said "That's not the Edward I've been dreaming of", but he played the part so well... my dreams definitely started to evolve to Rob as Edward. In the end... everyone in the cast is irreplaceable.

I could imagine Ben as Edward, but that's cause I love him anyway. I think Ben'd be good playing Aro, for which there were loads of rumours even though in the end none were true. But I think he'd be good as Aro.
I'm wondering why Hardwicke reveals these things? It seems a little embarrassing to the actors who were rejected. It reminds me of when she dished that they asked Bryce Dallas Howard to take Victoria's role first but that she thought the film wasn't "big enough for her". It's a little in bad taste.

Pomona Sprout es total mente absurdo ... no solo por el hecho que dañarian la borbuja macnifica que hasta el momento mantiene enserrada a tan impresionante historia si no que podria ocurrir que alos fans apesar de contar con el mismo reparto exepto robert seria una catastrofe para la historia y los fans dejarian de leer o de apasionarse tanto con esta historia

robert es un gran actor que cuando tu tratas con el tedas cuenta que es una exelente persona un poco misterioso y no le gusta dibulgar su vida privada ¿obio quien no? pero el caso es este cuando los fans leen los libro no se imaginan otra cosa que las caras ya expuestas de los actores los que an leido los libro saben de lo que hablo yo personal mente no supe de la historia hasta el momento que vi la pelicula desde entoses me trapo y decidi buscar informacion de la pesona que la avia creado por su puesto si era capas de crear tan magnifica histiria tendria mas iguales a esta y en el camino de la busqueda encontre que era una saga de libros que de inmediato compre y cuando lo empese a leer en cada ecena desde Twilight a dawns solo pude ver lacara de Kristen Stewart,robert pattinson ,Christian Serratos,Michael Welch ,Billy Burke, etc. no digo que los actores que no pudieron partisipar en esta magnifica historia no sean buenos solo que ya el publico se familiariso con estos estupendos Act.
Wow Shiloh Fernandez, now I could imagine him as Edward. Although no one could beat Rob for me. He is the perfect Edward. Thanks Kristen for demnding him. But Shiloh Fernandez is my close second for sure. He reminds me of a young joaquin phoenix in he pretty days.

It's funny every time I saw the movie and look at pictures of Jackson as Jasper, to me based on the book he should had been Edward and Rob is more of a Jasper. Jasper is supposed to be the tallest of the Cullens and also more mature looking. Jackson is actually the shortest of the Cullens and the youngest looking one, even though he is older then Rob.
Just my opinion... In my version of Edward based on the books, Jackson it's him.
Wow, when I saw that episode of Gossip Girl when it first aired I thought, "Man, he would have made a really great Edward!"
I saw Ben Barnes in 'Dorian' last week and thought he could have been just as perfect as Rob in the Edward role. But adore Rob - he makes Edward so sexy and intense.
