It also resulted in the murder charge this past summer in the death of Jonathan Sohus, his landlord, who went missing with his wife, Linda, while Mr. Gerhartsreiter was living in their guest house under the name Christopher Chichester — and claiming to be a relative of Lord Mountbatten — in 1985. Mr. Sohus’s remains were found buried in the backyard in 1994; his wife is still missing.
