Results and photos from the 2011 Securian Run

January has only had a few "nice" days.  One of those days was Saturday.  That meant great running weather for the 1,600 runners taking part in the Securian Run (as part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival).

The Securian Run has had a half marathon for years.  Recently, they added a 5K distance.  And this year, they were trying out a 10K as well.  They tried out a new route for all the races that took the runners around Rice Park for a glimpse at some of the ice sculptures.

Everything about the new route was great, except for one major detail: there seemed to be a mis-informed volunteer at the turn-around point for the half marathon who was telling people to turn back too soon.  So the vast majority of the half marathon runners only ran around 11.6 miles, instead of 13.1.  Some people took that in stride, while others were more annoyed by getting cut short.

I ran the half marathon, and I took photos and video along the way.  Check out the slideshow of images to the left that contains some of my photos.  And below the slideshow, check out a 3 minute video I made from the 2010 race last year.  (I'll have a new one for 2011 shortly, so check back...)

Here are the results: 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon.

that shortened half marathon was a race-ruiner. that was a big mistake on Anderson Races part.
