Too many destinations, too little time. And now with the economy not so rosy, there's also too little money. But there are some good summer deals out there. I recently spent two nights at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. Located on Halfmoon Bay, this is camping in style. In addition to its traditional lodge rooms and cabins, the resort offers elegant, private tents that are nestled among the Arbutus trees with expansive views out to Malaspina Strait.
The tenthouses, which I renamed tentalows, are anything but rustic. Deluxe furnishings include fine linens on the king-size beds, hydro-therapy tubs (view included), rain forest shower, propane fireplace and radiant floor heating. Outside is a private veranda where you can relax in his and her bathrobes. The tentalows also include coffee and tea makers, clock radio with iPod hook-ups, complimentary WiFi, a fridge, board games and a small library. If you're more of a traditional sleeper, there are poolside rooms, one and two-bedroom suites and ocean view rooms in the lodge. The resort also has oceanside cabins featuring one, two and three bedrooms.
There is an on-site restaurant (I missed the Sunday brunch but did enjoy some yummy mussels for lunch one afternoon), and during the summer months you can enjoy dining outdoors from a variety of BBQ items. There are dozens of activities, including hiking, sailing and golfing. I enjoyed kayaking with Halfmoon Sea Kayaks during one of their full moon tours, and it was spectacular. And don't miss the Rockwater Sunshine Cove Spa. In the summer months, they offer their signature massage in the Spa Without Walls, on a bluff overlooking the ocean. It's sublime. You can also have treatments in their poolside treatment room or your own accommodation.
