Mockingjay, the third and final book in Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy, has debuted at #1 on both the USA Today and The New York Times bestseller lists.
In just its first week on sale in the U.S., Mockingjay has sold more than 450,000 copies in hardcover and eBook format -- prompting Scholastic to print an additional 400,000 copies. That brings the total copies of Mockingjay in print in the U.S. to 1.6 million since the book's release on August 24th.
“After months of anticipation, sales for Mockingjay have exceeded all expectations, as has the outpouring from countless teen and adult fans of the trilogy who have been blogging, tweeting, and coming out to meet Suzanne Collins on the first leg of her North American tour,” said Ellie Berger, President of the Scholastic Trade Publishing division, in a press release.
The Hunger Games has been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 100 consecutive weeks since its release in September 2008. Its sequel, Catching Fire, has been on the bestseller list for over 50 weeks in a row since its September 2009 publication.
