Pre-production on The Hunger Games movie adaptation is still in the early stages, but that has not stopped fans from enthusiastically discussing fantasy casting choices for some of the series biggest characters -- most notable among them, Katniss Everdeen.
Several rising names have been tossed about -- Jodelle Ferland, Chloe Moretz, Malese Jow -- but one, in particular, stands out as one of the top fan picks: British actress Kaya Scodelario.
Best known for her role in the British TV show "Skins," Scodelario has a growing legion of Hunger Games fans calling for her to play Katniss in the movie adaptation. The following is so strong, some have started an online petition.
Earlier this week, a fan "tweeted" Scodelario a link to the petition -- and her response on Twitter was both enthusiastic and flattered. She wrote:
wow thank you so much! Hope I get a audition for it
Still, it's unclear what producers at Lionsgate have in mind, and it's unknown when the casting process will begin. However, producers have said they hope to begin filming in early 2011, with a theatrical release in 2012.
