Paris Hilton's alibi undone by social networking

Technology has undone Paris Hilton. To be precise, social networking has undone Paris Hilton.

Hilton said that the purse she was found with, the one that (ahem) contained 0.8 grams of cocaine in a little plastic baggie, wasn't hers. It also contained a broken tablet of the prescription medication albuterol, some Zig Zag wrappers (often use to roll joints, and $1,300 in cash, Although the albuterol, Zig Zag wrappers, and $1,300 in cash was here, the cocaine wasn't. Oh, and she thought it was gum, too.

Meanwhile, in mid-July Paris posted an image of an identical purse to TwitPic. Strange, isn't it? There are some comments at the post, and one of them has the perfect reason for the oddity: "Her latest alibi is that she bought the purse, then gave it away as a gift, then borrowed it back."

No matter: she is being charged with felony possession of cocaine. Las Vegas police spokesman Officer Jay Rivera said: "She's being charged with possession, so it doesn't matter if it's hers (the purse) or someone else's. She's the person in possession of it (the cocaine), so it doesn't matter."

Of course, she's rich and famous, so it doesn't matter what she does, really, does it? That apparently is the thought behind the actions of many celebrities. All you have to do is look at events like Paris' long stint in jail, earlier, and how Lindsay Lohan exited both jail and rehab early, something that wouldn't happen to an ordinary citizen, to see why they believe this sort of thing.

They always get off easy. Instead, let's not let the riches of her parents and her fame (really, for doing nothing but being rich and beautiful ... at least to some) cloud the issue. Felony, drug possession, and not her first offense. Slam the door on her.

Oh, and judge, try to ignore it when she cries out again "It's not right!" as she did last time, despite the fact she got off far easier than John or Jane Q. Public would have.
