Neiman Marcus at Short Hills hosted their Fall 2011 Trend Preview on August 10, showcasing the must-have looks for the upcoming season. The event began with a showing by Elie Tahari to a small number of exclusive clientele, as well as displays and live models throughout the store. According to the trend setters at Neiman Marcus there are key trends to follow when planning the upcoming season’s wardrobe. Each of them will keep you looking perfect for fall.
Bordeaux – the number one trend of the season. From shoes to clothing and beauty, this is a color that cannot be missed. It was showcased on dresses, skirts, bags, pumps and very prominently on lips. You can see one example of how to wear it here. Bordeaux can be utilized for a night on the town just as easily as a day at the office and is extremely flattering. In the words of Neiman Marcus, “mix the hue with deep pinks and red for a look that is very today.” Dior's take on the color is flawless, as well as Armani.
Color Blocking – a look that was debuted by Vogue’s Editor and fashion maven Anna Wintour at the seasonal Neiman Marcus/Vogue Breakfast at the Ritz in Paris. It is a look that can flatter any figure when worn correctly, and allows you to make a bold color statement. These looks from Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera and 2 B Rych show this trend perfectly and are super flattering.
Lady Chic – nothing makes a woman feel feminine better than a ladylike appearance. This is a big trend for the season. A perfectly put together suit or conservatively cut yet stylish piece allows for a beautiful, polished look. These outfits from Jean Paul Gaultier and Giambattista Valli are great examples of how to wear this trend.
Fur – you can’t go wrong with a fur piece, whether you choose a bold color or a more neutral one. A very popular way to wear this look is by using a wrap-around scarf as a neckpiece. One of the looks shown by Elie Tahari used this style and also incorporated a leather skirt into the outfit, merging another hot trend. Tahari also models these two styles here with a pair of the fashion house’s full length leather “Darlene” gloves and the corresponding “Kelly” fur scarf.
Leather – whether it’s a full leather piece or accent, this fabric is showing up everywhere. Flirty lace cocktail dresses are being edged out with skinny leather belts and the material is also being seen as a detailed embellishment on exposed zippers and seams. It’s a look that continues to be super sexy. Vince has the perfect pencil skirt to showcase this trend and Yves Saint Laurent a stunning cap sleeve dress in deep magenta leather.
Shimmer – a great way to give your wardrobe that extra sparkle. Choosing a black cocktail dress with shimmery embellishments provides a look sure to make you stand out in a crowd. You can also carry this trend into your handbag and accessories, like this Gucci shimmer patterned shawl.
The Pump – whether it’s a conservative three inch heel or these stunning sky high Manolo Blahniks, this season’s footwear is all about the pump. Choose a pair like these leopard lined bordeaux ones from Dolce & Gabbana to mix two hot trends in one.
Bold Gold – dress up a simple outfit or make a stand-out piece stand out even more. Huge bold cuffs or necklaces are perfect ways to showcase this trend. If you prefer to make a statement with your clothing, a gold shift dress works as well. Marco Bicego has a great necklace to carry this trend, and Oscar de la Renta the perfect dress to show this gorgeous hue off.
Handheld Bags – clutches are it this season when it comes to your handbag. Alexander McQueen has a bold leopard print for those of you who want to wear your “Jersey style” proud. Gucci’s black clutch is a great everyday version that you can take to the office, or for a bold statement try this wine colored clutch from Prada that has tiered scale paillettes all over its silk body.
The “it” color for beauty goes perfectly with the on-trend color for clothes and accessories this season because they are one and the same! When asked for the top three trends of the fall beauty season, Neiman’s Cosmetics Manager Jonathan Espiritu gave the must-haves as 1) bordeaux lips, 2) flawless skin and 3) non-contoured cheeks with only a small hint of blush: the idea is to allow your lips and eyes to speak for themselves and rely less on the look of heavy rouge.
