While most of us are still enjoying summer's hot temperatures and wearing open toe shoes , designers have already moved on to revealing this year's fall collections. There are a range of stylish and creative new looks to choose from. However, two of the biggest trends on the runway this fall are fur and fifties- inspired pieces.
Designers were very creative with their use of fur and faux fur in their fall collections. Some designers mixed real fur and varieties of faux fur with different fabrics to create warm, cozy and even colorful looks.
Other designers chose to use fur as an accessorizing piece to create wraps and boots that provided a luxurious, chic everyday look.Chanel took fur to a whole new level for fall to create a very distinctive, fashion forward look.
Chanel's fall runway featured faux fur in a variety of head -to-toe -fur ensembles. There were several all-fur pants, sweaters, and skirts. But more impressively, was how the collection featured a lot of weaving and mixing of knit and tweed with the fur.
Chanel also utilized fur as a trimming for leather jackets and tweed or knit blazers. Each ensemble was paired with faux fur boots ,signature Chanel handbags, and occasionally, leather boots. Overall, the collection had an Eskimo-ice-age theme to it.
Michael Kors also implemented an element of cozy into fall but he also added a glamorous touch to it. Kors used the colors black, beige, tan, caramel, and gold to create a very luxurious yet casual collection. His collection featured a plethora of heavy cozy sweaters and sweater dresses with drooping necklines.
The reoccurring neckline added a hip-casual feel to the ensembles. Kors' accessories included suede boots, sweater hats and leggings, leather strapped shoes, and elements of fur. He used fur as trimming and lining on a range of coats and jackets while also creating all fur coats, purses, wraps, and even skirts.
Kors managed to sprinkle in pencil skirts, accented with shapely leather belts and smooth blazers for women and men too. In sum, Michael Kors fall created a collection that was very cozy, casual, and yet luxurious. It could easily be seen worn on a winter resort vacation spot.
Altuzarra put a very modern, edgy, and sexy spin to the fur trend. He stitched and trimmed goat fur onto the basic, black two-piece women suits and variety of tailored, fitted coats and jackets. Some of Altuzarra's goat fur jackets and coats included leather bodices that accentuated the waistline.
In other instances, the goat fur merely trimmed the well-tailored jackets and coats. The slashed-cut out element also gave the range of long and short dresses a sexy look. The Altuzarra's collection of black goat fur and leather created the image of a very chic, sexy woman for the fall.
Beyond the fur, there were also several touches of the signature fifties' hour-glass silhouette on the runway. The fifties era introduced several shapely, tailored pieces that included: the A-line or pencil skirt, the two-piece women suit with a fitted or cropped jacket, and full swing skirts and dresses.
Bibh Mohapatra collection screamed fifties Hollywood glamour. Mohapatra created several over-the-knee wool coats and a range of pencil skirts and dresses. Mohapatra featured many asymmetrical dresses with A-line bottoms made of satin and cotton.
He was especially inventive in his range of flowy, evening gowns that were also made of satin and chiffon. The evening gowns included a range of necklines of sweetheart, plunging, and asymmetrical. Mohapatra was not afraid of utilizing fur either.
In fact, he accessorized with fur wraps and all fur coats with brass buttons in the collection. He also trimmed many of the two-piece suits with fur around the collar. He polished off the fifties collection with helmet style hats and gloves.
Luisa Beccaria also brought back the fifties flare but added an ultra soft, feminine interpretation to it for her fall collection. Becarria implemented soft fabrics of cashmere, satin, and knit to provide a soft look to the silhouettes of the pencil and swing skirts in her collection.
She complimented the looks with girly touches of knee-highs, leggings, patterned stockings, and a variety of platform pumps. Beccaria paired soft cardigans and sweaters with patterned- print swing and pencil skirts. She also mixed in some sheer tops, floral dresses, cashmere wrap coats, and blazers with wide and thin belts that accentuate the waist.
She also added in slacks, cotton blouses, and long, flowy dresses. The last defining feature of the collection was the ruffles. Beccaria embellished two-piece suits, dresses, and coats with ruffles. Essentially, Luisa Beccaria presented a very soft, elegant, girly, and very wearable fall collection.
How To Create the Look: Although it may seem difficult to replicate the fur and fifties trends, it's actually quite easy and fun to create! Try pairing a simple sweater dress with a pair of faux fur boots and fur trimmed hat.
Or try putting a pencil style skirt and simple cardigan with leggings or stockings and a great leather coat trimmed in faux fur. For a more professional or business look, pair a simple pencil style skirt or pants with a cropped blazer or a fitted blouse to create that signature fifties' hour-glass-silhouette shape.
Accessorize it with simple pumps or leather boots. The possibilities can be endless. The key is to mix fur with well-tailored pieces.
