- Buddy, in his current guise, is much different than the dog originally presented to our hospital. A previously abused dog, Buddy is learning to trust people and finding that he likes to be around us.
- Despite his abusive past, Buddy is an extremely sweet dog. He craves attention and likes to be held and cuddled. He is the perfect lap dog.
- Buddy is also learning, likely for the first time in his life, that food is no longer a scarce resource. When he first came to us, Buddy was thin and he lost 13 teeth due to his previous abuse. Now, however, he has gained weight and enjoys his food.
- Buddy has also discovered that he enjoys dog treats. His favorite treats are Greenies and Heartgard® chews (unmedicated).
- Another first for Buddy in the past month is his introduction to dog toys. Apparently Buddy's neglectful, abusive previous owners never allowed him dog toys. Buddy, at first, did not know what to do with his new toys. However, he has since figured out that dog toys are great fun. He has several toys, of which a squeaky toy seems to be his favorite.
- Buddy greets hospital staff every morning in an enthusiastic manner which leaves no doubt that he has become extremely fond of us over the past month. He seems to have left his abusive past behind him very effectively. However, the flat-footed gait which he will likely always retain, the misshapen toenails and the missing teeth are constant reminders of the abuse Buddy suffered at the hands of his previous owners.
- When Buddy first presented to our hospital, the hair was so badly matted around his feet and legs that he could not walk correctly.
- Besides being badly matted, Buddy's hair was saturated with dog urine and feces. His ears were badly inflamed from lack of proper care and nails were so badly overgrown that they had become misshapen and deformed.
- The dog in this photo and the two photos preceding are barely recognizable as the dog we call Buddy today. No longer an abused dog, Buddy is living his life to the fullest now.
- This is Buddy directly after shaving his matted hair. His haircoat is now starting to come back in and Buddy is becoming a handsome little dog. If you are interested in adopting Buddy, please contact the Hoffman Animal Hospital at 401-941-7345.
