- Bill & Nancy Kehoe, Loomis, California are owners of TOP DUCK, a 1935 22 Gar Wood 22-40 Runabout with a 169 hp, 6-cylinder Scripps engine. Top Duck is a 1935 Gar Wood 22 Triple Cockpit Runabout. She was manufactured at the Marysville, Michigan factory. Top Duck, was one of only a few of the 22 Runabouts that came from the factory with a Scripps engine. She was originally shipped to Saint Louis, Missouri. After years of use and neglect the boat was eventually left sitting in a field. She was a grey boat completely un-seaworthy. Now, after many years wasting away in the field, she eventually found her way to Southern California. We learned of the 22 Gar Wood being for sale and brought her home several years ago, to begin a total restoration. All work including; re-building engine, upholstery, woodwork, re-wiring, finishing and even making its own custom trailer, has been done by the owners. We look forward to using Top Duck in the years to come. Photo © Sharon Gay 2010.
