The Christmas holidays are in full swing. Houses are decorated up and down the streets of Roanoke Valley and school Christmas programs and church plays are keeping parents busier than the normal hectic pace.
But with presents to buy and keeping in the spirit of "living on a budget" here are some ideas for unique gifts to make instead of buying the not-so-perfect gift for those on your list this season. The materials can be purchased at local stores around the area. (Kroger - Towne Square Shopping Mall, Walmart - Valley View (or Bonsack),and Kmart - Crossroads Shopping Mall are just a few.) Use your imagination and creativity to add your own flavor to these ideas.
- Vintage Button Earrings
- Ruffle Tee-Shirt
- Sea-Glass / Rock Candy
- Crochet Beaded chandelier Earrings
- Snowflake Ornaments
- Gift Box of Hugs with poem attached
- Decorated Jar of Bath Salts
- No Sew Fleece Blanket
So stay up a little longer or get up a little earlier than normal, and use this time to make a few gifts for those you care about in your life. It's not easy to find the time, but saving money by making a gift is worth it. Plus you will be giving a small part of yourself by giving something from the heart, made by your own hands.
It's the thought that counts... even in our materialistic world.
Don't forget: teach your little ones how to make gifts. They will enjoy making these items for other occasions as well.
