Armed judge fatally shoots a home invader in self defense

An intruder was reportedly shot in self defense by a Judge, after breaking into that Judge's home early in the morning.

Police say that at about 4:00 AM, a burglar, whose face was covered with a bandanna, broke into the home of Superior Court Judge Carlisle Overstreet, located in Richmond County, GA.  The intruder is said to have proceeded upstairs, then back downstairs.  Hearing the intruder approach, the Judge reportedly fired in self defense, striking him in the chest and ending the attack.  A suspect, reportedly identified as 20 year old John E. Howard Jr., whose jail nickname was reported to be "Killa," later died from his wounds, and the Judge was unharmed, according to police.  At the time of the home invasion and self defense shooting, Howard was on probation for 3 burglaries and a shoplifting offense, according to news reports.

Home invasions are a deadly threat to the occupants of a home. The criminals who commit such crimes often murder, shoot, stab, torture, kidnap, and permanently injure their victims. The result is that the lives of law abiding, innocent people can be ended or ruined in an instant, all because of a criminal’s desire to make a quick buck. Fortunately, this armed homeowner was prepared to defend himself, and as a result survived this home invasion attempt unharmed, while the suspect will never again victimize another innocent person.
