Cap and trade allows strangers to enter your home; do you meet the national building code standards?

http://activerain.com/blogsview/1134766/cap-and-trade-will-destroy-real-estate-ownership-

The philosophy of the cap and trade program, pushed by power hungry politicians and backed by "green" companies, is by now well understood. Many are wondering how this bill could be so bad. Why would anyone oppose a cleaner environment? Well, cap and trade does nothing to help the environment, this has been established. But now, details about how this bill will directly effect every American are starting to come to the fore.

One can remember a promise made by President Obama that all Americans would have several days to read over a bill before it was to pass. However, Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman shoved a cap and trade bill through congress last Friday, without giving members of the House a chance to read it. Fortunately, John Boehner thumbed through the 1,500 page monstrosity, reading the bill to the House for about one hour.

Within cap and trade is a provision which mandates a national building code for energy efficiency. This national building code would override all state provisions already in place. By 2012, new buildings are to be 30% more efficient than they are under current regulations. By 2016, new buildings are to be 50% more efficient, and so on. "New buildings" include new homes, thus making new homes more expensive which will only serve to hamper the housing market.

Also, the bill stipulates that state codes match the national codes, or the said state codes will be nullified, and states will lose federal funding and carbon allowances. Remember, in this new world of cap and trade, the federal government has the authority to "allow" businesses within a state or community to conduct operations and emit carbon. Thus, millions of private sector jobs would be politicized under cap and trade. This type of politicization can only be found throughout history in societies governed by tyrants.

Perhaps President Obama and Nancy Pelosi are taking advantage of the foolish anti-business climate prevalent in America today. If one argues on behalf of business, he or she is part of the old, racist, rich, fascist, balding, all white male club. So maybe explaining how cap and trade will kill businesses and jobs is not so advantageous. However, homeowners have also been made the target of further regulations under cap and trade.

In this economy, selling a home may be the last ditch effort of someone trying to keep his or her head above water. Perhaps an individual or a family has to move on short notice but can only do so if the house they own is sold. Or, even more common nowadays, people are downsizing and are attempting to sell their house in order to buy something more in line with personal budget concerns. Whatever the case may be, Americans ought to be able to sell their houses whenever they want, and in whatever condition they want to sell it in, so long as the buyer agrees to the deal. That idea is not good enough for our federal government, instead, through cap and trade they will exact control through federal inspections of your home before you are allowed to sell.

So, new homes will be more expensive, thus limiting who can afford a new home, and further depressing the housing market. Now what of this inspection business? Yes, the cap and trade bill that passed through congress allows for somebody from the government to come into your house and inspect your windows, appliances, A/C, furnace, and anything else that you can think of to make sure your house is on par with the new national building codes. Not only will they inspect your house, but they will then be able to mandate that you, the seller, provide the necessary remedies regardless of cost, within a certain amount of time BEFORE YOU MAY SELL YOUR OWN HOUSE. So unless you bought a house that is seen as suitable through the eyes of the federal government, you can expect to spend plenty of money remaking your house, even if selling your house is a matter of economic survival for you.

Bear in mind, this is only one example of how egregious this bill and this government is. As more time passes, and more people are able to peel back the onion on this bill, there will be more revelations about the tyrannical implications of this bill, and the fascist inclinations of the Obama presidency.

Far from wanting Obama policies to succeed, we must hope cap and trade fails. While the media and the Democrat party are preaching to us, saying that we must want Obama to succeed, we must say no. No to his policies because, more important than his success, is the continued prosperity of America her inhabitants, and the continued existence of liberty and the American dream. Anybody that voted for cap and trade, or supports cap and trade in general, is rooting for the destruction of American greatness, and the death of the American dream. The type of tyrannical intrusion detailed in this article, is wholly incompatible with the blessings of liberty and the philosophy of the United States. Cap and trade can only be described as anti-freedom, and anti-American.

unless this applies to the government and banks meeting the same standards, house flipping will be a thing of the past. no more government auctions, no more bank auctions, no more foreclosure auctions until the house is up to code. houses will simply be abandoned just like they are in detroit now, becoming firehazards for those left behind. forcing prices to go up because of codes is not the way to make the market rebound. no one will buy. Obama seems to be all about rushing laws and bills thru so no one can read them or investigate them or oppose them. If he has decided it needs to happen, he will push it thru as fast as he can.

and sue, i know the republicans from my state (NC) voted for it even tho they never read it.

The author said: "One can remember a promise made by President Obama that all Americans would have several days to read over a bill before it was to pass."

Except that that is not what Obama said at all. What he actually said was that non-urgent legislation would sit on his desk for a five day review and comment period before he signed it. It's not like the executive branch could ever have that kind of control over the legislative branch anyways. Besides, the Waxman-Markey bill came out of committee on May 21st so it has been available to everyone since at least then.

Lies, manipulation, intimidation and bribes were used to force the House to pass Obama’s economy killing bill!

House members were not given time even to read the bill! Obama and his accomplices thus trampled on our human right to be represented and defended by our Legislative body.

Obama’s Cap and trade is another giant step towards Marxism — and the corruption, poverty, enslavement, destruction and despair that Marxism entails.

Obama is working much faster than Hugo Chavez at destroying the economy and imposing Marxism. No wonder the Russians are gloating:

From Pravda: “…the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people…”

We must do whatever is necessary to defend ourselves and our children from from Obama and his accomplices.

Jeff, there were 300 pages of changes that no one seems to have had the time to read!

This bill was rushed because Obama and his accomplices realized that scientists all over the world, in greater and greater numbers, are speaking out against the moronic global warming tale.

Under Obama, corruption and coercion have reached levels previously seen only in Marxist dictatorships like those of Cuba or Venezuela. No wonder he's siding with Castro, Chavez and Zelaya!

Antonia Sosa said "House members were not given time even to read the bill!"

The bill came out of committee on May 21st. That is well over a month of "time". Amendments to the bill should have been read as they came up. If any representatives were unable to read the bill before the vote, "time" is surely not a valid excuse.

An excellent, and enlightening article ! Thanks.

Jeff: There was a 300 page amendment to the bill submitted at 3AM on the day of the vote.

It was sneaky, and underhanded, and dishonest.

Would you, personally sign a contract that you'd already reviewed, and were willing to sign, if, at the last moment, there was a 300 page amendment ?

Anyone who voted for that bill without having read it, including the 300 page amendment, should be ashamed of themselves.

I have read through the bill as amended and cannot find any requirement that existing homes pass an energy audit before they can be sold. If you can find such a provision, please cite it. I'm pretty sure that it doesn't exist and that the proposed energy audits are merely an urban myth.

Sections 202 and 204 establish a labeling system that requires auditing on behalf of the government. The states are supposed to figure out how to force residential homes to become more energy efficient over a period of a few years. How are they going to do that? The labeling system is a mandate for energy audits, but how will they make people retrofit? By requiring retrofitting before sale, thats how! Why? because if states don't demonstrate progress, they are violating the law and will lose funding! wake up people!

There's no doubt that the present administration does NOT care about anything but power and control OVER the people.
Ever since Obama became President AFAIK he has NEVER started out any of his speaches with "My fellow Americans.." NEVER... He looks at us as nothing but cannon fodder.

Yet more fodder from the Republican war on science, what do you have against facts? More and more scientists are NOT discounting climate change, acid rain and the like, just more and more POLITICIANS and right wing bloggers like YOU are discounting it, perpetuating rumors and cherry picking scientific findings: huffingtonpost.com/bill-chameides/cap-and-trade-part-1-its_b_212652.html

John McHugh was one of the Republicans who voted yes. The skanky part is that he was nominated by Obama for Sec of the Army on June 2, 2009 and then he voted yes on Jun 26 and was confirmed on Sep 21, 2009. Coincidence? I don't think so. Eight repubs voted yes, the measure passed by eight votes.
